Caffeine Question?!?!
it is a diaretic; so early out when getting enough liquids in, you don't want to be peeing it out so quick. Second, it increases acid, so those prone to those issues need to be wary; as increased acid also gives off "hunger" feelings (with or without grehlin); brain will cause you to think you are hunger to eat something to counter the acid.
Nevertheless, I'm sitting here with my cup of joe---ahhhhhh. lol

Many doctors tell you to skip caffeine, mostly because it is a diuretic. The acid may bother some people. Although something I read recently said you had to have several cups of it for it to have the diuretic effect on the body. I was allowed my 1 dunkin donuts coffee per day since a week out. I still drink my 1 coffee, plus a few cups of tea daily and have throughout my losing phase. It didn't seem to have an effect on me. Oh, and I drink regular, not decaf.
I was told that it could cause ulcers....I think it is more RNY and Lap Band patients though. I drink my one cup a day as I always have and I have had no problems....I admit its the one secret I have kept from my surgeon and nutritionist--tee hee. I asked this forum early on and most of the people that responded (several responses) said they had regular coffee with no problems so that was good enough for me....HOWEVER, I have no other health issues that regular coffee would aggrivate ..heart, stomach etc...do you?
The diuretic effect of caffeine is minimal as explained in this article.

Some people worry that it's too acidic for their stomachs. I've never had any issues with having a cup of coffee since being about 6 weeks out. My surgeon was worried about my true clear fluid intake so as long as I hit the goal of 64oz of other clear fluids, coffee/tea was not an issue. I drink on average of 20-24oz of coffee per day and have for Lord only knows how long.

The diruetic part of the caffiene only comes into effect if you are a sporatic coffee drinker.. for example if you have one cup one day then two cups the next then not one at all the next and then two the next etc... but if you have a consistant amount daily and in moderation then it is more of an acidity issue for some.
