1 month out--A little discouraged

I just had my one month MD appointment.  He told me that I am losing weight at a "reasonable" rate.  According to his scale, I have only lost a few pounds from week 2 to week 4.  I know about the week 3 stall and this week I am probably bloated since it is that time for being bloated, but this is discouraging.  People around me say I am losing and I am able to fit into smaller clothes but I am just discouraged.

I need to work on getting more water in especially on the weekends.  I am starting to exercise more.  During the day, I typically have about 1 protien shake and 4 small 2 oz meals.  I am typically eating hummus, chilli, eggs, chicken, ff refried beans, lunch meat, etc.

Any ideas?

You're eating the right foods. Just make sure you're not exceeding 600 calories. I found it very hard to even reach 600 at one month out. Your fluid intake will be what determines your success in the long run. I'm not going to go all professor-mode on you, but in a nutshell, your body requires so much water to metabolize so much fat. Without sufficien****er, you'll retain what you have and progress will not be made. You have to make getting in at least 64 ounces a day your #1 priority. I can promise you, you will not starve or die of lack of food. We have plenty of fat stored up for that. ;) Work on pushing 64, then set the bar at 80. I'm at 100 or more ounces of water a day at 4.5 months out. It gets easier, you just have to make yourself do it.

I agree with TheBiscuit. Yon are eating the right foods but I wonder if you are eating too much at 1 month out. I think I eat what you are eating now at 6 months post op. At 1 month out, I think I was drinking 2 protein shakes & maybe 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. Hopefully someone else can chime in here too.
You've lost 32 pounds so far which is awesome. I'd be proud of that loss so far!

This is where I get to tell you that you are just fine.  You are eating the right foods for this stage, when you are cleared for dense food, make sure you switch to lean, dense protein and keep your portions small.  Early out, try to keep your calories low, while still getting in at least 70 grams of protein.  Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.  This will happen.

Based on the information you provided your carbs may be too high. When my carbs were more than 40 grams per day my weight loss slowed or stopped.

Agree with George.  I had to stay clear of a lot of pre-prepared food.  For example, you mention Chili - is it canned chili?  A lot of the even "Light" chili might not be seasoned with lean meat or might have added fat for thickening.  The lunch meat you are eating is it lean chicken or turkey breast?  You might be getting too many calories from that.

I'm not really asking for an answer and discussion hear, just offering things to think about.  My program has a nutritionist on staff that we can consult.  At about your point I asked her to review my food diary and offer suggestions.  She was able to point out options that I had not thought to look for and really pointd me in the right direction.  If your program has the same kind of resources use those to their fullest advantage.

Also, ladies seem to struggle a lot with water retention early on and around that time.  You may be experienceing some of this as well.  The best advice my usrgeon and support group gave me - Don't stress too much (sooo totally not in my nature to NOT stress) and stay on plan.  The weight will come off.  I'll pass that same advice on to you.  Talk the your support staff, and stay on plan.

Good luck!
