and unable to sleep and nauseated and itchy:
1.) Measure every conceivable body part and compare to the previous measurements
2.) Aimlessly surf the net
3.) Study your belly button intensely
4.) Fill out your journal with things like your measurements, weight and BMI, medications and times to take, vitamins and times to take, menus, etc
5.) Think of something you wanted to look up on the net but get distracted by Facebook posts
6.) Count your stretch marks
7.) Read this forum and try not to sound like a dork when you post replies.
8.) Count the bruises that are still healing from the surgery
9.) Sip your water and wonder how bad it would hurt if you actually threw up from the pain meds
10.) Organize your vitamins and medications alphabetically.

Okay that should keep anyone on pain meds and wide awake from being bored. I am now going to try that sleep thing I keep hearing so much about. Supposed to be really good for you... or so I hear.

Veronica, I had insomnia as a pre-op so i am kinda used to it but I was really hoping the pain meds would help with that because I would love to not have to go on yet another medication.

Lotuslover... tee hee I usually do some of that stuff throught the day too but it seemed like a good thing to post it in case new post-ops were wondering what they could do in the middle of the night while on pain meds that wouldn't wake up the rest of the house or cause themselves any bodily damage

Guess I was lucky, didn't need pain meds. Took some during my flight just because I didn't want to feel uncomfortable and not be able to get to my medication during the ride.

H opeyou are feeling better soon. The medication can be making you itchy, might be allergic to it. same question above, why are you still on pain meds?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one suffering with insomnia!! It's crazy! I thought it was from taking a nap aka sleeping for several hours the day of the super bowl and throwing my sleep off...but I think by now I should be on track. No such luck.

I've been hooked on late night csi, criminal minds type shows...as I am currently watching one as I type this.

Actually i haven't been on pain meds since about 4 days out when i realized that while I was uncomfortable i wasn't in enough pain to really warrant them. But yesterday i went to my doc or a followup and when she palpated my belly it set off same pain. Not anything like "omg I'm gonna die if i don't get to the ER" but not enough that I could sleep without taking something. It was kind of a catch 22. I took the full dose which I shouldn't have and it made me sick pretty quick. Once it was out of my tummy I felt fine-ish and was able to sleep for a little while. Just one of those weird things. And my doc was wondering why I wasn't still taking the pain meds. When I told her she said she would see if she could have the surgeon put me on something a little less intense. Basically it was an experiment gone wrong lol.
