The Pantyhose Chronicles

So today is our wedding aniversary and my husband Shrinking Nerd and I were going out to dinner. Someone had given me a beautiful deep blue beaded silk dress size 6 and I decided to wear it. First nsv was that all my dressy shoes, which I hadn't worn in 10 years, were too big. Settled on some gold lamae tennis shoes.

But earlier I realized that since retiring from the business world 10 years ago, I had tossed all my panty  hose and needed some for the fancy dress. Stopped at a grocery store since I needed other stuff for Super bowl guests tomorrw. Went through the entire panty hose selection AND THERE WAS NOT ONE SINGLE PAIR THAT WAS SMALL ENOUGH FOR ME. Not one. Used to be I would look high and low for the queen size ones and often split them when trying to stuff myselt into them. Or else they were made for a person 6 feet tall and if they fit my bottom, there were extra folds around my ankles. Jeez, I just hated panty hose and wore pants suits the last couple of years.

So I had to go to a second store to find some in my size and there were darn few choices. The smallest size fit beautifully.  Kind of sad that the big sellers are now 2 and 3x but that used to be me.

Anyway we had a lovely dinner - each getting an appetizer and bringing half of it home. It was fun to wear a fancy dress. I probably won't need panty hose again for another 5 years. Hope this pair still fits in the future.

Diane

Oh pantyhose.....they are the devil!! Am I the only one who has to "dance" to get them on? And I usually break into a sweat because even the QUEEN sizes won't fit! Once your legs are all sweaty, it's pretty much down hill from there. Am I right?? I do have a love/hate relationship with pantyhose though. After the torturous 10 mins of dancing around, pulling them up inch by inch....that final pull over the giant spare tire around my tummy sure feels nice! Finally, my fat's all tucked in...at least until I sit long enough for it to start rolling down. And the feeling of relief when you finally get to take them off and hop into sweatpants is HEAVEN! It's worth the permenant imprint  of the elastic band that will be red and itchy the next day....at least that's what I tell myself.
I can't wait to have your problem....haha!

yeah, that pretty much describes my history with panty hose. And they were so dang hot. I used to get a heat rash. and itchy and miserable where the seams are. I got so I couldn't even stand knee highs. the back seat of my car was full of them as i would pull them off and toss them the minute i got in my car after work. so glad I don't have to wear them anymore but glad i can if i need to.

soon you too will begin your journy to itty bitty panty hose. you will love your sleeve. gl on your journey.  diane

I have spider veins so I can't imagine going in a dress unless pantyhose.  I used to wear long dress a lot.  Maybe I ould wear makeup on my legs to hide the veins?

You know I never even thought about pantyhose until your post.  How incredible of a NSV!!

Panyhose are the devil.  Ladies, imagine being 330 pounds, but also 6'1 and pushing 6'2- and ALL of my height is from my legs.  Last year I had this huge award ceremony that I was being honored at (very cool) and it was a semi formal event.  I am from Michigan, this was California.  I packed pantyhose that I though would work and they didn;t.  I was panicked.  My husband ended up sprinting around the Sanat Monica area looking for fat girl stores and he brought back one pair of everything the sales folks said might work.  Ended up having one pair that I could at least get up, but a several inch gap in the crotch area because they were not nearly long enough.  Talk about uncomfortable.  It is probably the single most awful memory of being so fat and it led to the surgery process.  Jeez, I could puke just thinking about this.  But, now nearly 60 pounds down I think that if I had to the fat sizes would work better as material would now be used in length more rather than going around me.

But no plans anytime soon going near devil pantyhose!

By the way, my husband is an absolute saint.  I teased him about all of these places just assuming he was a transvestite!
