What should I be taking with me
Due to my insurance coverage being dropped as of 2/1/12 I will be going back to the tribal clinic here for most of my aftercare and any other medical issues. I kind of doubt the docs at the clinic are very knowledgable about bariatric surgery of any kind and am wondering what sort of things I would need to have with me when I go for my first appointments with the new doc. I plan to ask when I start making my appointments whether any of the docs there have any experience with bariatric surgery patients so that if anyone does at least I wont be going to someone with no idea of what is entailed. But in case they don't have anyone I would like to go armed with everything the new doc will need to take care of me right. Any ideas or suggestions from anyone who has had to switch docs mid-stream would be great. Thanks in advance
I would ask for a copy of all records from your bariatric surgeon. Keep a coppy for yourself and give a copy to your new doc. Ask your surgeon for a follow-up care plan that includes how often you should see a doc and what labs should be drawn and how often. Ask the surgeon if your new doc can contact him by e-mail if he has any questions, and if so give your new doc the e-mail address. I think you'll be fine with the new doc if you bring your information with you. Good luck!
