If your doc allows you to take any pills at all, they will be fine.  They are the most commonly used med in the hospital for post-op patients.

Im on the 2 week full liquids diet and can have things with a little bit more substance like cream soup. But I was allowed to have my protein drinks immediately and I am wondering if that may have caused a little bit of the back up. but i don't know if i actually am at this point. Just wondering if the time frame is something to be concerned about.

my first two weeks was strict clear liquids (some how fat free milk is one and I'm lactose intolerant) so i knew i would poop if i just had enough milk (still my trick now for not going!) they sent me home without pooping but wouldnt let me go without farting so i guess if you are farting they know your bowels are working

I would definitely take a stool softener because pain meds can cause constipation. You don't want to get to the point that you are so backed up you are miserable. Miralax worked well for me and I only had to take it a couple of times.

Oh don't worry... it will come out. They aren't playing when they say liquids in, liquids out. I pee'd out of my butt for 2+ weeks. So much so that I couldn't even leave the house because when it hit, I had to be in the bathroom within 10 seconds or there was going to be a major problem. Then, when that phase stopped there was a constipation problem. Straight out of the hospital I didn't "go" for days. There was nothing for me to get out... until.... the "peeing" began...
