TMI: 3 days out and no BM?
Surgery was on 1/26/12. So far my fluid intake has been right at 40 ounces of plain water, 4 tablespoons SF jello, an SF popsicle, and 4 ounces of black decaff coffee per day. Im constantly sipping on something. Anyway I just realised that I havent used to bathroom since the day before the surgery. Should I be concerned? I'm getting in about 16 ounces of a protien drink per day as well and wonder if that little bit can bind a person up? Is it safe to take a stool softener this close to surgery?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You may not have anything in you that needs to come out. You are urinating? As long as you aren't any pain, contact your doctor tomorrow and ask if it is okay to take something.
Milk of Magnesia is on my list and I've used it a few times. Now, at 8 weeks out, if I don't have a bowel movement for two days in a row, I'll have a cup of Smooth Move Tea before bedtime. I don't want my body to become reliant on a stimulant and stool softener. As time passes and I'm able to eat higher fiber foods, constipation should ease up.

I am still urinating normally so no worries there and its pale so I know I am well hydrated at this point. I am just adding in cream soups today so maybe things will move tomorrow but for now I'm not in any pain except if I take a sip too fast or a nibble of something too fast. I just wasn't sure if I should be worried at all about it this close to surgery.

My plan says if there is no BM in three days then a laxative is necessary.
It also says to take a stool softener daily to help with constipation.
