So, I am trying to be a very good girl and get all my water in but everytime i take a sip and swallow it i get a burp that hangs up on my diaphragm and hurts like heck for about 5 minutes. i know I am not drinking too much because Im barely sipping enough to wet my mouth and I know I am not sipping too fast because I set the bottle down for at least 2 full minutes between sips. Any ideas on how to make getting my liquids in less painful?

Are you taking an acid reducer like a PPI?  Burping after taking things in is a common symptom of too much stomach acid.  You also might try gas-x strips, they melt on your tongue.

Try different temperature drinks. some people have trouble with icy or cold drinks after surgery, but room temp or warm drinks feel better. Avoid straws and sip carefully to take in as little air as possible. It really does get better, I promise.

Kathy, i have a PPI and will definitely give that a shot. Also have the GasX strips and will take one of those as well.

Kim no straws have gone near my lips and I will definitely experiment with the temp thing.

I an having a similar problem since my surgery 19 days ago, even with PPI and gas ex.  It's like the liquid hits my stomach and these gas bubbles are just waiting to surround it! It seems to be getting a little better tho - now I am on some soft foods and it happens there too. But I think as times goes on it will fade away!

Are you drinking plain water? some of us have trouble with the motility of plain water in our sleeves. adding something to the water, even a squirt of fresh lemon juice changes the motility and lets our sleeves tolerate it better.

Even now at nearly two years out,I can drink about 6 ounces of plain water ,then my sleeve starts fussing about it and I have to add Mio drops then she is fine again.

Good luck.it gets better.

So far drinks straight from the fridge and room temp water seem to set of the burps but a few sips of warm coffee seem to be ok. Now if only everything didn't give me such horrible dry mouth

Try putting a little lemon or lime juice in the water. It changes the ph of the water. It goes down smoother. It worked for me.

Everything that was said is good.  I did all of those, and they helped.  I also find that not all PPIs are the same.  I had to switch to Dexilant (a couple of months before the surgery) because the other stuff stopped working on me. I have gastritis which can also cause excessive burping.
