I only had to pay the remainder of my out-of-pocket expenses on my insurance. I did see the hospital bill - $52,000. I was very glad I did not have to pay that bill. If I had, I wouldn't be sitting here 46 pounds down and looking at getting to a more healthy weight for the first time in about 25 years.

My surgery was cash pay and was a total $9800.  That included the surgical center and the surgeon.  I had mine done in New Iberia, LA.

Definitely sounds high, I used to work in insurance billing for a local hospital and while the weight loss center in the hospital didn't do VSG specifically, they did the others and the average was about $25k.

I thought it was high too. My insurance is being billed for all by my portion of it ($2,500). I do have to stay 2 nights. Maybe they were just figuring on the high side in case things don't go "right". I don't know, but 70,000 was the highest I had ever heard of for this type of surgery.

It's what they are charging the insurance company.

Wow, my insurance was billed for $19,000 plus $2,000 for anesthesia.  Aetna paid $14,000 and I'm still waiting for how much they paid for anesthesia (it came back denied as they wanted to make sure I had no other insurance).

Seems high to me too- best to check how many days of hospital stay is included.  I went  a little under $4,000 for the surgeon, about $2000 I think for anesthesia, and a smidge on $18,000 for the hospital stay.  Not sure if all of my bills are showing yet though.
