Protein Coffee
Drinking one as I type! (Usually have 2 a day for a sweet 60 grams of protein.)
I mix the powder, usually chocolate, sometimes vanilla, with about 1/4 cup of almond milk and a squirt or two of sugar free Torani or DaVinci syrup.
Then, stirring while I pour, in goes the hot coffee - full leaded these days, but decaf sometimes.
Since I work outside of the house most days, I usually just mix the protein slurry at the bottom of my insulated travel mugs and add coffee from the dispenser at the cafeteria at work. Once in a blue moon the coffee is too hot and I clump my protein which is gagalicious - even though it is still usable protein, there is no way I can choke it down, so I dump it and start over.
I think the temp at which it clumps is about 130F. I have found that as long as it isn't straight out of the brewer that I am usually fine.

Hmm... it's not just that it clumps though right? It also does something... or maybe not... I could be crazy. I'll have to try a few of these ideas... thanks everyone!

I have seen people post that it "denatures" and is no longer good protein. If this is true, then cooked eggs are no longer good protein either.
Denatured means that the structural charateristics of the protein have been changed by heat, acidity or other means. So protein becomes denatured when it hits our stomach acid anyway. Despite this, all of the amino acids are still present and are digestible. SOme of the sources I looked at suggest that they are possibly MORE absorbable, but I didn't want a chemistry lesson, so I didn't look into the topic in great detail.
Short answer though - if you are comfortable with cooked meat and eggs, cooked whey protein is no less healthy.
It is WAY more disgusting, at least when the little rubbery blobs are floating around in my coffee!

I just posted the following on someone's page a minute ago...
I have a Premier protein shake every day...well, at least Monday - Friday. I actually mix the chocolate one with a low fat Starbucks mocha and sip that all morning as my protein/iced coffee combo. To me, it just tastes like a slightly thicker iced coffee and I don't have to worry about the clumps from the powder variety. For a change of pace, I've also been buying the vanilla premier and mixing it with the vanilla low fat Starbucks iced coffee (from the grocery store) and adding Sugar Free Torani flavored syrup (caramel is my favorite). The only negative about the vanilla shake is that it's grainy, but my solution is to mix it well with the iced vanilla coffee and sugar free syrup and then let it sit for a while before I drink it. All the grainyness settles to the bottom that way and I just avoid the last sip or two. Great way to make sure I hit over 80 grams of protein a day while staying under 1,000 calories!
