Where'd I go wrong?
Today I had my first experience with... not quite the "foamies," but the feeling of needing to vomit within a few minutes of finishing eating. I've been replaying what and how I ate for the past few hours and I can't figure out what brought on the experience, so I'd appreciate anyone who can look into this and give me some ideas on what I might have done wrong so I don't do it again.
I'll add before I start that my emotional state isn't superb today due to a recent death in the family, but I was able to get in my baked 1/4 cup of Egg Beaters with 1T salsa for breakfast without any problems (and haven't had problems with it in the past). For lunch, I chopped up 2 oz of the chicken breast I had baked up this morning (baking dish with Pam spray and black pepper to season, I'm boring; the rest is in the fridge for future meals) in a food processor. I'm not yet a full week into soft foods, but I've always made my chicken salad by using the food processor to chop, but now I'm actually making sure I chew what little chunks there are, just in case. I added 2T of the Vanilla Greek Chobani, and then spices that I use consistently and have not yet had problems with (black pepper, paprika). Mixed that up, and steamed up some frozen broccoli.
I kept with my little spoon, I used little bites, I chewed to make sure everything was nice and paste-y before I swallowed. I got within about 4 bites left of the chicken (about 25 min into the meal) and got my "stop" signal from my body - it's not tightness in my stomach area, it's more like I feel I have to burp, and I know I'm done, because the couple of times I've gone past that it's felt like eating Thanksgiving Dinner twice over. So I stopped - still a little chicken left and the broccoli untouched.
About 10 minutes later, I started feeling like my lower jaw was numbing and I had a need to vomit. Went to the bathroom, just sat for awhile in case... dry heaved once, nothing came up, had a bowel movement and then kind of just wandered aimlessly around the house for a bit, and the feeling passed in maybe a half an hour. I didn't feel any tightness in my stomach or chest during the episode. The closest thing I can compare it to was how I felt when I had food poisoning.
It's driving me crazy because I've been unable to figure out why. I was a fast eater prior to surgery, so it takes a lot of concentration for me to slow down. I stopped when I got my "stop" signal, even though I hadn't finished my meal, ate my protein first, didn't introduce any new foods at this meal or use meat/yogurt that is beyond its expiration date. That was only lunch; I did a protein shake for dinner because my plan advises returning to liquids if an incident occurs, but I need to hit my protein numbers for the day.
Thanks in advance if you can point out something I missed so I can prevent something like this happening again.

My Nut said not to even try broccoli or celery for several months. The fiber is too much for our tiny tummy's to handle. I am almost 8 weeks and still haven't added any cooked veggies. I'm still on soft to mushy foods because of fear of pain. I also now have issues with onions and too much spice when added to foods. LOL Burping is always my clue to stop.
Early on as you're transitioning you may just have good and bad tummy days. I had days when I could barely eat anything so it sounds like you're doing great.
The foods you ate were both on my no-no list for soft foods: chicken breast and broccoli, both of which I wasn't supposed to have for 3 months. I do eat chicken breast now regularly but I have to say that I've had foamies 3 times and two of them were chicken breast.
If your tummy was having an off day, it could simply be either the chicken breast or broccoli disagreed with it today.
I'd suggest dark meat chicken for a few more weeks and no broccoli for a while. Trust me, it's not forever.

My surgeon told me at my two weeks, that things will make me nauseous off and on while I heal and thats one of the things that come with surgery. (my mind translated this to they cut your stomach into the size of a hot dog deal with it suck it up and you will get better as time goes on) I've eaten the same thing in the same day and it make me queasy once and not the other, this too shall pass good luck!
Like some of the others mentioned, I was unable to tolerate chicken until about 4-5 months out. It felt terrible in my stomach.
And the veggies are too cruciferous for your new tummy!!! Go slow, softer foods, and when eating meat you will benefit from fatttier cuts versus leaner cuts for now.
