It works in coffee

So I bought a bag of soy based protein shake powder from Sam's club.  Just couldn't choke the stuff down as a shake, and I reeaalllly tried.  What a waste of $20 or $25, can't remember what I paid.  This morning as I am reading other posts about coffee I realize that many of you dump the powder into coffee.  I tried, and sure enough I like it!  I am very happy to not be wasting all of this now!

I just put the powder in the mug, filled half way and stir, finish filling and stir.  No clumps or nasitness at all :)  Like a mocha coffee... but not too sweet or mocha ish.  I use cream and sweetner normally, but no need now.  What a great way for me to cut some calories overall by dropping the cream and using shake mix instead!

Hi there.  I have no opinions on putting your protein in coffee because I've never done that.  I did want to mention that a soy based protein may not be what you need.  I've read over and over that we are supposed to use a whey isolate protein because it is better for us but I can't remember why right now.  Please do some research or check with your doctor or nut to confirm or hopefully someone else may chime in who has the answer.  Of course I could be completely wrong, which happens often, so if that's the case then proceed with your soy protein.

You are correct about us going for the whey isolate.  I did run it by my NUT and she was good with it.  Not planning on buying another bag though...

I love protein powder in my coffee -- I have it every morning. I also got some of the sugar-free peppermint syrup, and a slosh of that in it is out of this world! :)

For my second cup I added SF Torani vanilla- even better :)  Love that I now have the 2 scoops of mix down, but alas I am going to be hungry soon.  Can already tell...

Still need my supplements though so that should take care of it.

I thought coffee was a no no?

I was advised that coffee (and other caffeine) was highly discouraged because of the increased risk of ulcers.  When I talked one-on-one with the nutritionist she said an occasional drink with caffeine was OK, but she didn't want me drinking a pot of coffee daily or anything like that.

I quit caffeine about a week before surgery and now when I've tried to have fully-leaded coffee, it gets me really jittery - so I stick to decaf.

When I was still using protein supplements I would mix with my decaf, a small amount of powdered vanilla creamer, and a little splenda (I used the unflavored protein).  It was the only way I could tolerate the protein.

My NUT said decaf was ok and counted toward liquids.

I LOVE my morning protein coffee! I use decaf and I find it's a great way to start my day! I stopped caffein prior to VSG and don't miss it, so I just stick to decaf now.
