What are you going to do to change your life in 2012

 Hi Everyone,

What are you going to do to change your life in 2012? I am sure that the thing most people have said is “I want to lose weight." So if you are sitting out there reading and absorbing anything and everything you can to educate yourself about weight loss surgery. Congratulations to you. That is your 1st step!!! That makes you like so many of us that did the same thing before we had weight loss surgery.

For me, I just didn't wake up one morning and say to my family and friends “Oh by the way, next week I am going to Mexico and have weight loss surgery." I started thinking about it at least a year before I had weight loss surgery. I had a friend who had WLS, and I must have asked her 500 questions. She was so helpful to me. Honestly there is nothing wrong with asking every questions that comes into your head. There are NO bad questions.

I checked out doctors in the US and Mexico. I was one of the lucky ones, I had the money to pay for it in the US or Mexico. So why did I go to Dr. Aceves in Mexico? In my opinion I wanted the very best I could find, and someone who had done many WLS and that were successful. I did a LOT of research—almost 6 months worth of it checking everything I could think of out. The next thing was what kind of hospital was I going to have my surgery in? For me it HAD to be in a 1st class hospital. I started checking—NOT all hospital are created equal in Mexico or the US. Many doctors charges less in Mexico—why? Because they do not use a hospital and they do the surgery in a clinic and then send you to a recovery house to recover after surgery—There was NO way that I would ever go to a Clinic for WLS—there really is a reason why they charge less???? Dr. Aceves has a state of the art hospital along with highly qualified staff who speak excellent English. His infection rate was less than any US hospital too.

Maybe 2012 is the year that you might care enough about yourself to GO for it and have WLS. You have earned the right to put yourself first, I am willing to bet that you spent most of your life taking care of everyone else. I did that too. I know that for some of you, it is about the money. Honestly I have an answer for you. There are places that will loan you the money so that you can have this surgery—I can hear what you are thinking—I can't afford that. Well, we all seem to be able to afford “car payments." So why not make “body payments." Your are going to be living is this body for the rest of your life. Now is the time to make your body healthy and happy. So, as I said your DESERVE to have this WLS. Please NEVER give up on your dream of having WLS.

I had a “Sleeve" and I just love it. It is the tool that will allow you to lose the weight. It is NOT a miracle cure. You have to work at it, like making healthy food choices and YES adding some exercise to the mix too. It is possible. I was the person *****ally didn't like exercise—now I love it. I walk all the time. I am now trying to add some swimming or water aerobics.

You can do this, there are so many people out here on these boards who are here to help you with your questions and anything you want or need to talk about. Make 2012 your year to become healthy and to lose the weight. You will be the winner and your entire life will change. I am always here anytime you have any questions and want to talk.

Hugs,
Suzanne

Since I've already been sleeved, 2012 should include getting to goal and maybe getting pregnant.  We still need to decide for sure that we want kids, but I think we're leaning towards it now.

Congrats on your success and thanks for sharing!

Hi,

Take your time when it comes to figuring out that you want kids.  Consider how your life will change.  They are great, but they do require a lot of attention and time.  I have had 2 and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Congrats to you on having your weight loss surgery.  You are on your way to having it ALL!.

I am actually going to Dr Aceves in March for my sleeve.

Funny that you mention kids, Silly_Sweet. That's the biggest reason why I want to lose this weight so quickly. Hubby and I have decided that when I finish my masters' degree, it will be time to start trying to have kids. Well, I don't want to do that in the state I'm in now, as badly as I want children, because I don't want my health to put them at risk.

I guess we'll see!

I am going to start off by having surgery. Then I am going to get up off my ass and get out and exercise or just get out of the house and do something. I literally come in the house and won't leave until it's time for work again on Monday.

Hi,

That is one of the hardest things to do.  Get out there and do something once you come home.  One of the things that helped me most was I had a walking partner.  So she counted on me being there every morning to walk.  It was great for both of us!  It is soooooo easy to come home from work and say" I am tire, it is cold, I don't feel like going out."

I wish you great success with this once you have your WLS.  Keep me posted.

Great post! My goal for the year...make the most of it!

I don't make resolutions but I did buy a Fitbit on impulse and then linked my account to My Fitness Pal and those two tools have sort of lit a fire under my butt. I've been counting steps and flights of stairs and calories for over a week now. I've lost 4 of the 5 lbs. I put on between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and am on my way to losing more, which is a good thing because I need to weigh less when I see my surgeon on Feb. 15th than I did when I saw him Nov. 21 and that means losing those 5 lbs. plus whatever else I can lose between now and the 15th. He didn't specify how much but I figure any loss is better than none (or gaining!).

My tastes are changing already. I feel better and have more energy and it's only been a week and a half. Maybe it's just a honeymoon period but I don't care. It's a start and I feel an energy of change in the air and inside of myself. This is the year I take back my life and my self-esteem.

I started my WLS journey four years ago and had to stop because my marriage was falling apart. Been through hell and back since then and now I'm ready. It's going to work this time and I am so excited to see how it all plays out.
