Travel shortly after VSG surgery ?

I am planning on having a revision from a band to a vsg. I plan on doing my 1st week up at my home in Mass. I would then like to go to Florida to my mobile home. Do you think I will be able to travel? I went to a wedding 3 days post op my band. What do you think ??
Please discuss with your doctor. I traveled by plane about 2 weeks after surgery due to a family emergency. As a recent post op, I was at a higher risk for blot clots, and had to take some precautions when flying. I don't think my doc would have recommended it if it wasn't necessary. Just be careful and talk to your doc. Best luck!

Hi! I was wondering what hospital are you having surgery at. My surgery is Feb 8th at Brigham & Women!
I traveled four days after surgery (flying) and think it may have been a contributor to my leaks that occurred few days later. :( Wheeling around my suitcase and laptop, lots of walking at airport, etc. even though I never lifted. I was traveling alone, so think that made a difference too. For whatever its worth. Good luck and happy recovery.
I don't think travel is prohibited.....but what are you doing for after care? I'm not sure I would want to be far from my surgeon (or a doctor very familar with me) in the first month or so after surgery.
Also....you are at a much higher risk for blood clots for quite awhile after surgery....especially the first few weeks. Make sure you take plenty of time to stop, stretch, and get the blood movin' while you are in the car or plane.

I traveled by car (3 days drive) Immediately following my surgery. My Surgeon OK`d me for this but insisted lots of stops with some moving around. 2 days after that I flew home (a FULL day flying) and 3 days after that I flew again to visit family for ther holidays. All my travel was authorized by my surgeon. I made sure not to lift anything heavy and I asked for assistance at the airport.
No harm in checking with your surgeon as your cir****tances could be different than mine,

If you are driving to Florida, I'd say play it by ear and see how you are feeling at one week. If you are flying, maybe wait 2 weeks between surgery and your flight to get in your first post op visit and avoid rescheduling a flight if you don't feel well. I felt great one week post -op, but got tired easily.
