myth: muscle weights more than fat

I wasn't mocking. I just find it interesting when people post that they gained a lb or 5 or whatever it is, but they had been working out more and muscle WEIGHS more than fat. Don't you turn burn fat and gain muscle? so they wouldn't gain because the lb. of muscle doesn't weigh anymore than the lb of fat they burned. am I missing something.? I wasn't trying to argue OR mock. Just educate the a lb is a lb.

So would a better way to say it be it takes a LOT LESS muscle to equal a pound than it does fat? To me, one should know that that's what the person means when they're saying muscle weighs more than fat. Because really they're saying that chunk of muscle right there weights more than that same sized chunk of fat right there. So in their head they're talking in volume in the first place, but who's really gonna break it down like that? Too technical. We know what the heck everyone means. It's not that serious.

Some people really have difficulty inferring meaning and need things spelled out quite explicitly. Some people just get really aggravated when they believe someone is technically incorrect and maybe enjoy calling them out on it. Maybe it's a grammar OCD thing.
Fortunately, I can understand intent and don't get hung up on such things. I've got bigger fish to fry. ;)

Personally, I'm one that says muscle weighs more than fat ALL THE TIME and I completely understand that a pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of bricks, but I need people to understand that a pile of feathers does not weigh the same as a pile of bricks and THAT is what I mean when i say it and I don't feel like I need to spell that **** out every time I say it. It's common sense. I didn't say a POUND of muscle weighs more than a POUND of fat. Anyway, I also don't make posts saying how annoying it is when other people make posts that are annoying to me... which is VERY annoying. I think it makes for a negative environment and personally, I don't think that we need that type of **** here. That's what we're trying to get rid of. And it's not even my style to be posting THIS type of comment but it is what it is.

If folks would really understand the interaction of muscle, fa****er and bone mass/% and how that affects total weight, they might not get so hung up on the simple numbers of total weight.
There are so many minor transgressions where semantics get twisted into obtuse arguments. If you want to really understand what is going on in your body then get the tools to measure you progress. The argument of what weighs more is secondary to understanding total body composition and how that relates to your overall health.
