Advice on Menu at 3.5 weeks post-op
Hello!
I was sleeved on 12/12/11.
According to my doctor starting 1 week following surgery I could have "soft foods". Followed by other foods at 2 weeks and some meats at 3 weeks and so forth. My doctor has told us (my husband and I. Hubby had surgery 11/21) that he would like us to be eating every 2-3 hours. So have planned my meals accordingly.
Below is my food for today. Per Spark people I am at 621 calories, 38 grams of protein and 19 carbs.
My question is: What was your food intake like at 3.5 weeks- 6 weeks?
Do you think I should add or subtract anything??
Breakfast- 7am 1 hard boiled egg
Snack-10am 4 slices Salami .5 Oz Pepper jack cheese 2 Ritz crackers
Lunch- 1pm 1 hard boiled egg 1 tablespoon Olive Oil reduced fat Mayo 1tsp Mustard
Afternoon snack-4pm Cheese Crisps made from 1 oz cheese 2 tablespoons Fat free sour cream
Dinner-6pm 1 Foster Farm Turkey Meatball .25 cup Marinara sauce .25 oz Monterrey cheese
Evening snack-9pm Fat Free Strawberry Jell-O

everyone is going to be different.
i'm a little over 2 months out & i barely get to 600 calories - your meal listed is a bit much for me, but again everyone is different.
"i" would add a protein drink over a snack to get your protein in the 60+ range - considering you can handle more.

We're sleeve sisters :) Yay.
So far I'm only eating 1 meal a day which has been 2 ounces of tuna (with a recently added hard boiled egg) and mayo for dinner. The rest of the day I have 2 protein shakes and crystal light/poweraid zero to meet my protein and fluid requirements. Sometimes I have a cheese stick or an ounce of tuna some time through out the day.
My surgeon has a similar meal plan as yours but I felt like he was progressing too fast and I just didn't feel like I could eat that often and meet the fluid requirements. I am going to start trying to eat twice a day though because I'm going back to work soon and I need to get used to being more "normal."
If I were going to add/subtract anything, I'd take out the crackers. You could always use cheese crisps as a substitute and that would add some protein and take away carbs..
I'd take out the sour cream and use greek yogurt. Adds protein and doesn't taste too bad
I read that there was a way to put unflavored protein powder into jello. Maybe you could do that for your evening snack.
Oh, I don't know the nutrition facts on salami, but I thought I looked one time when I was shopping and I remember choosing the ham/turkey over the salami/something else and I can't remember if it had higher protein or if it was just because of the lower fat content.
If you are happy with how things have been going though, I'd say keep doing what you're doing. :)
Edit: my dr advised that I still drink 50-60 g of protein in shakes per day in addition to the food intake. I would probably drink a shake or 2 to bring the protein up...

Yay for Sleeve Sisters!
I also feel that this is going a little too fast. I feel that I am constantly eating and don't have time to get in the fluids I need. That was the main reason I was asking for advise. I am glad to here from someone is is right there with me!
The surgeon had said he would "like" for us to be off protein drinks by the second week and getting our protein through actual food BUT I am finding hard to get all the protein in.
I think I will start having protein shakes in the AM to see if that helps.
Thanks for all your suggestions about the food substitutions. I am definitely gonna try them!
Hope you are doing good!

Sparkpeople is a totally fee service that has many different tracking options. I like it because I can type in almost anything and the nutritional value is already in there. If it is not then I can add the food. It also calculates all of the values and let you know how you are doing.
The site also has alot of other things connected to it including message boards, teams, blogs, articles and a recipe site.
I also like that they have an app for the phone so I can log my food and exercise without having to get on the computer.
If you do end up joining you can find me there under the same name :)
