Newly Sleeved - just 5 days out

Congrats on being 3 weeks out!  I've been on this road for over a year and never thought I would finally get here.  I started by attending a seminar on 9/11/10 and then had to see my PCP to discuss it with her and to get a referral as my  insurance required the 6 month medically supervised weight loss.  I started that last December and had my last appointment in June.  Then, it was a matter of getting in with the surgeon for the consultation and had to have a couple of other tests done, including upper GI and endoscopy.  The patient coordinator at the surgeons office told me to expect to be denied with the first submission so I was expecting not to be approved.  In October, she called me and told me we got an approval on the first try!  I was floored!  I opted to do the surgery after the holidays, as I did not really want to deal with X=mas Shopping, etc. while trying to recover.  Plus, this is a slower time at work for me, so the time off wasn't a big deal.  I am amazed at how despite being on a liquid diet, I am not hungry!

I am hoping to go back to work on Wednesday (that would be 1 week after surgery) if all goes well, but I have a desk job so there's not alot involved.  I may ask to go back on Wed-Friday part time only and then back full time on Monday, Jan. 9.

I'm sure you will do fine.  I was up and walking a few hours after surgery and never had to hit the pain killer button once!  Dr. sent me home with prescrips which my hubby filled, but I haven't needed to take them.   I did have 3 unexpected bouts of nausea on the day after surgery (twice while in the hospital) but they only lasted a matter of seconds and quickly passed.  Have not had any since.

The only thing that drives me nuts is that everywhere I go or look, there is food and I can smell all of the restaurants nearby my house!

I know exactly how you feel.... I started this journey last March, and I am finally having my surgery! I was supposed to have it in October, but they found ulcers during my endoscopy, and wanted them to heal first. Today I feel really bad. I went to a bakery with my kids, and there was a very rude person there giving the sales clerk a hard time. Of course, I said something (my hubby always says I can't just ignore things), and she looked at me and said something to the effect of "you really look like you could use those donuts". The manager asked her to leave and gave me 50% off the order, and although I have pretty tough skin, it really got to me!  I havn't felt this way in a long time and I feel very vulnerable right now!  I wish I could meet this woman again in a year from now! Almost like pretty woman when she goes back to the snobs at the dress stores and shows them how much commission they missed out on! Anyways, sorry for babbling, just needed to vent!

Thanks for listening,

Leah

It's hard to hear those type of things, trust me.  But, YOU will have the last laugh when you have been sleeved and look and feel amazing.  I can imagine that it happening this close to surgery probably does make you feel more sensitive, but know that in 3 more weeks, you will be on the road to a whole new you!  Go get 'em, girl!
Feel free to vent anytime!

I was sleeved on 12/29. Very skilled surgeon. Had surgery at 1:00 pm on thur and sent hime 24 hours later. Had very easy time fri and sat but today having very bad gas pains -moving it out but very painful and almost constant. Took pain meds twice today and heading to bed ( where I can now lay down!). This is my fault b/c I am on clear liquids and stupidly had a Medicare vanilla shake today

I am back on isopure and vitamin water zero and chicken broth exclusively until Friday! Weighed myself and the new scale I bot showed down only 3 lbs. I think I am going to avoid weighing until I see me surgeon on fri

Two things to thankful for this year already -first is all the help and support I am getting from this board and second my neighbor *****ally has made this all possible for me -I'll post on everything she did for me later in the week

Good luck on your journe -let's stay in touch and share our progress

Hiya,

I was sleeved one day before youon 12/27/11. My surgery was very easy minus the horrible gas pains that kept me in the hospital for an extra night. Since then however, I have been feeling great. The gas is probably 90% gone and I am able to walk 2 miles a day. I have a ton of energy since surgery and love it. I agree with you with the bordem of luquids. My diet allows for strainded soups as well and starting tomorrow I can have puree's. I found a potato soup powder mix in Winn Dixie yesterday. It is really soft, great flavor. It has allowed for some variety in my post op diet. I am allowed the s/f pudding and pops as well so I squeeze those in during the day as well. I don't know your diet plan but if you progress as you should, I expect you to have a wide variety of food available by the time your trip comes up.

Good luck to you
