Vegetables, small amt of fresh fruit, beans, skim milk. I stay away from bread, potato, rice, pasta but sometimes have a bite. quinua (sp?) is also a high protein carb, but I have only had once. I dont eat cereal - didnt even before surgery b/c it is very high in carbs (unless it is All Bran or Fiber One, but cant imagine eating more than 1/4 cup now).
There's carbs in pretty much everything from cheese to meat to veggies, rice and cereal. You want to stick with complex carbs. Meat, cheeses, and veggies are generally low carb. But if you are doing carbohydrates, stick with complex. A potato is a complext carb but very high. Some prefer sweet potato, for some reason they are a trigger food with me and I end up craving sweets, so I go for half a baked potato w cheese and bacon and I do better.
Brown rice is better than white. Wheat bread better than white, etc. Basically stay away from white food. lol.

to me good carbs are fiber bad carbs are starches. there is a good site i use that shows the glycemic index of carbs so you can put in whatever you want and it will tell you all the vitamins in it, caloric ratios (fats/carbs/fiber), amino acid score, etc.

Veggies mainly. Fruits sparingly and in small amounts.
We don't need processed grains and carbs, ever. Now I'm in the minority, I indulge in a little bad carbs on occasion, but the amount is small and I no longer can tolerate my trigger, sugar.
Steel cut oatmeal would be the only cereal I can imagine, but again its basically sugars. All the dry cereals are total crap food
It's w new way of eating. Even my kids now think that bread is a treat! We rarely if ever have it in the house.
