I'm 3 days out & i'm feelimg much better. I can keep my protein drinks and water down pretty well. But (no pun intended), nothing out of the old southern appeture. Is this something to worry about?

Lenny - glad to see you are out here!  I would have looked for you at Forest Park but they didn't have enough beds in the main hospital floor section, so I had to stay back in the pre-op area in the North Bldg after my surgery.

I can't remember exactly what was said about 'southern activity', but after the clean-out drug prior to surgery and so very very little since then, I think it might be too soon to expect much from there.  I would think it would be a week or so, but that is just my guess and hopefully some of our sleeve veterans will post with good answers soon.

Take care,
Mel

You are fine it will take about a week or a little longer. It took me over a week. Did mr davidson have u take a liquid laxative the day before surgery? He did with me and it cleaned me out so I didn't expect to have bowel movements quick after surgery since he has us on a liquid diet for a few weeks after surgery. Take care

Believe me, only 3 days out is nothing to worry about - I stayed in the hospital for three nights and released on the 4th day - THEN activity started moving... you could melt a Gas X strip (and that helped), but at this point I wouldn't do anything to force movement b/c then you will be wanting it to stop!! LOL Congrats on being on the "other side" - lots of success to you!! Sip, sip, walk, walk, etc.

Lenny, glad to see you are doing well.  I have the same problem as you but my nut and Dr. told me to not concern myself until after 1.5 to 2 weeks of no movement.  They said the same thing the other posters said, there is nothing in your system and the bowel will have to be pulled from the protein and broth.  They told me to expect the first few times to be nothing but fluid out of that end.

Good luck.

Nothing to worry about. You were cleaned out prior to surgery and now you're on liquids. It'll take a few more days (or maybe even a week from what I've read) and then the flood gate will open. Don't be surprised if when you finally do go it's the Big D! Liquid in, Liquid out.

My old southern aperture is working  too good, and I'm four days out!  However, I'm still on clear liquids.  Did you do a bowel prep before surgery?  Sometimes that cleans you out so well that it takes some time before everything starts to work.

And remember, your bowel was put to sleep also while under. Sometimes it takes a bit to get it fully functioning again.
