Sad and Confused

If you are having surgery with a skilled surgeon, studies have shown that the odds of you dying during the operation or from a cause related to the operation are LESS THAN living for another year being morbidly obese.

It took me "one last diet" - losing and then regaining 50 lbs before I admitted that I was not going to beat the odds (less than 5% of morbidly obese people maintain their weight loss from diet and exercise alone) and I have a young child so I understand where you are coming from.  What I finally had to admit to myself that I was putting her more at risk of losing her mother by staying fat than I was by not having the surgery.  And I had to face that I could not do it on my own.

I'm sure that having gone through the lap band process, you are even more hesitant to try something else, but they are really two totally different things, with different outcomes...I'm sure you know all that already.

That all said, you need to be sure, 100% sure, and able to face the doubts voiced by your parents - and face those doubts with facts to back you up.  Do more research, talk to a counselor, talk to your surgeon again, do whatever it is you need to do in order to be in a good place mentally to make your decision.  Just don't give up.
