3.5 weeks out and new pain and gas?? WTH?? **rant**

Ok...this is going to be a rant.   This weekend has been crazy for me...started out with weird pains in my left shoulder and left abdominal pain, which freaked me out because i was thinking I had a leak.  I called my doc and he seemed to think it was still trapped gas.  Well, I thought I was over the whole gas thing already since I'm 3.5 weeks out, but apparently not and I've been burping like crazy and the pain is moving to my right should on occasion, so that actually made me feel better.  But the pain in my left side has not subsided...it's gotten worse!!  I don't feel bad otherwise and I have no fever.  I did search on OH and found many people had pulled muscles/stitches 3 to 4  weeks out and pain went away after a few days.  I called my surgeons nurse this morning and she tells me to take a laxative.  I'm still not getting all my liquids and protein in...I'm tired of worrying and tired of this recovery and I'm tired of being scared to eat.  Having a little buyers remorse right now.  It's like starting all over again from right after surgrey with this pain.  I thought I was over the worst of recovery...it's just making me so sad right now.
Rant over...

Feel free to rant! I am sure it isn't easy dealing with pain and adjusting to a new way of eating. I don't have much advice as I haven't been sleeved yet, but just wanted to offer some encouragement. I hope you are feeling better soon!!

I can't seem to find enough hours in the day...for example, I've been sipping on the same protein drink for almost 3 hours, and it was only 16 ounces...if I drink to fast i feel pressure and gurgling in my new stomach.  Plus I'm scared to eat...I can't feel fullness, so I'm undereating...and probably not getting in everything I need.

Its ok to rant ! I am getting ready to celebrate my 2 year sleeve anniversary.  It is worth it.  I did not have as much pain but had constipation issues right afterwards and I too felt buyers remorse. Dont be afraid to eat because you need nutrients. You will learn how much you can handle the sleeve will tell you.   This was the best thing I ever did for me. I now eat pretty much everything small portions of course. I have been stabilized on my weight for  a year and a half never felt better. My daughter had ther surgery  last year she was a lot like you in the pain but she would tell you to hang in there. She had a lot of gas pain  and was also afraid to eat she soon discovered that when she started getting her protein and nutrients in she felt better however she had problems with gas pains for a bit.   You will feel better soon .

I'm so ready to be where you are...I realize this is journey and this is just one sucky phase...but it's hard.  Congrats on your 2 year anniversary and your success with the sleeve!  I believe it will be worth it in the end if I can endure this.

It is well worth it. I know how you feel my daughter had a rougher time. January will be her 1 year anniversary.  She has lost all her weight and looks great. and feels good.   We both try to focus on protein but we eat pretty much what we want. I always try to eat healthy. I dont drink any carbonated beverages but do drink wine.  One of the most important things I have found is the density of the food makes a difference how it goes down.I have learned to eat my steak medium rare if it is cooked to done I can not eat it. You will learn what works for you. Good luck I know you will be happy ! I never thought I would be wearing a size 6 my goal was a 8.  Also my blood pressure has been good since I lost my weight.  No meds except for Nexium. Great .

It's ok to rant!!!!! I think at some point we all have a little touch of buyers remorse, but hang in there the best is yet to come. I'm 6 weeks out this week and I understand being afraid to eat. Some days I don't get all my fluids in and I can really tell with the dry mouth and constipation. But in order to heal and make progress you gotta try. Good luck hope you're feeling better today.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well!

For the first month or so after surgery I had pain on my left side, it wasn't constant but it sucked pretty badly when it did hurt. When chatting with my surgeon he told me it was likely that because that is the side where the excess stomach was pulled out there was much more manipulation on that side, hence the pain lasting longer. Pulled muscle makes sense too. It does eventually stop hurting. I promise.

I'm not going to lecture you with the "you need your liquids and protein!" speech. You already know that. What I am going to tell you is, do what you can. The first couple months are rough (at least I thought they were) and its a lot to go through; physically, mentally and emotionally. Take things slow, do what feels right (within reason), you'll get there. It just takes a little time.

Hope you're feeling better soon and remember that this is for you, take the time to take care of yourself.

Leah
