What a "real" meal out can look like these days (6 months out)

Thanks - I do need to add in more veggies.  I have started adding in fruit a couple of times a week - a handful of grapes, or a couple of wedges of an apple. I haven't really even thought about moving into maintenance mode but I guess it's getting close to time to do that!

Great mindful eating !!!!

Way to eat within your numbers !!!

I did a trip a few months ago and over 8 days ate 21 restaurant meals.

I call it Combat Eating.....I can find something to eat anywhere......

Combat Eating! I love this! I'm totally stealing it, Frisco :)

And yeah, I think eating out so much has actually helped me be more aware in some instances. I travel several times per year for business and the options there are to eat out... or eat a protein bar or jerky or something.

There are days (like today) when I know I chose the RIGHT surgery. I know with some that tonight's meal would not have been possible.

Thanks, Frisco... I'm going to catch up to your skinny little butt one of these days...

Thanks for posting Candy...so nice to see a family-type "normal" because at the end of the day, we have to live our lives with our spouses and kids...I know my husband is really missing out on our eat-out date-nights and its nice to know there are good options of things we can share...when I can finally eat again. *laughing* Hubby remarked tonight that he was going to gain 20 pounds if this kept up because he ends up eating most of everything (we did appetizer AND dessert tonight - I eat a few bites and he finishes it LOL). I told him he needs to learn the art of the doggie bag.

But yeah, my friends love to hit places with me. Amazingly, one will take me to IHOP any day because she loves pancakes and I love eggs, so we get a big pancake breakfast thing and split it. I have NO idea, it's just become "our thing".

*laughing* Yeah, I thought I'd NEVER eat out "normal" again. I guess I don't eat "normal" - or well, it's a new "normal" nowadays.

My first meal out was at 2 or 3 weeks. We went to Chili's of all places and they purreed up their green chicken stew. It was DIVINE.

I was never a huge Chili's fan, but I must give them some SERIOUS WLS props. They have always been super accomodating... from pureeing my soup to subsituting rice or whatever for other things. I also have weird food allergies and they go out of their way to make sure I will be okay. As much as I wasn't a fan prior to surgery, I LOVE them now.

Don't be afraid to go out. Most places have a soup you can have the broth from (Japanese is good for this time period). You'd be surprised what you can do with a little creativity. You're really close to starting mushies too... breakfast places usually have yogurt or cottage cheese. You WILL eat out again and it will be fun. Promise :)

Thanks for this post! I too allow myself the occasional bad carb and luckily, I haven't had any real trigger issues (the bacchanalia of yesterday notwithstanding).

I knew that eating out would be something I had to deal with early on because of my job, so I just try to make the best choices I can within my plan . . . thank heavens for chicken! It's my new best friend.

Oh, let's not talk about the "choices" I made this weekend. I pretty much just knew I wanted to stay under 1500 calories and I did, but we won't talk about all the crap I ate. It's okay. It was planned out though and it's over and the wagon is here for me :)

You must be doing something right! You're doing amazingly well. I think eating out can be even more fun now (well, besides freaking out the occassional wait staff member LOL)

Wonderful wonderful wonderful post.  I needed this tonight.  I have eaten more "normal" than I have since surgery and have been feeling guilt for two days now.

I have not gone over calories but have tasted things I had written off....I even at the pumpkin part of a small piece of pumpkin pie (no crust).  It was so good.

This is a great post  and seems real and normal, thank you!
