OMG clothing NSV

I'm back into an awkward size where my 18s are just too big for their own good, but I cant get into many 16s pants (I have 3 pieces of clothing that are 16s and fit, but try as i might, can't find anymore).

This morning, I got dressed, and I put my baggy old 18s on, and I felt like crap. I looked horrible. So, as I was driving to work, I decided to stop by walmart to find something else because I just couldn't handle it.

I tried a few skirts on in size 16 and pants - and nothing fit. Its really only my hips that are too big otherwise they'd fit, so I decided to just try on a dress. I tried on a 16/18 black dress and it was a bit baggy. I was going to leave without anything, but decided to just randomly grab the size L (a 12/14) and buy it. I had no idea if it was going to fit, but when I got to work -

IT FIT. So i'm going to be dancing around all day in a cute black dress and cute  tights in a LARGE. I feel so much better now that I dont have super sized baggy clothes on.

I think im going to be buying more dresses and just freeze all winter - i'm over these pants!!!

What a great NSV!! I know how good it feels to get into that next smaller size! Congrats on your new dress!

WORD. I am so with you on the pants thing! I'm in the same weird transition thing you are in, and in the same sizes! I found a pair of LEI jeans at walmart in a size 17 and they are perfect, but there arent many 17s around. The back pockets are cute so it makes my butt look decent.. I just wish I could find a few more pairs of them so I could alternate between jeans! A big problem I'm having now is if the waist fits, the thighs and butt are too big/baggy and it makes me look sloppy. 18s are getting to be too big around the waist and are SUPER huge around my thighs/butt so even a belt doesn't make it any better. I'm so over this transitional size thing!!
I'm going to go to WM today to see if I can find some more of those 17 jeans. :/

I enjoy dresses but it was literally 4 degrees on my way to work this morning - tights or no, that's too freaking cold for dresses! haha

I wont complain about my 40 degree weather then!  I never thought to try 17s...are they really sized between a 16 and an 18 or they like jrs vanity sizing?

I found them in the jr's department so...maybe? I just know that I'm not *quite* into 16s yet (well. Old Navy's anyway. Other 16s are fitting me OK) and 18s are too big. The 17s are perfect. Maybe look around next time you're there, in the junior's department!

Congrats!  That's awesome!

If you have bigger hips and a smaller waist, look for the following in pants:

1) "Curvy" cut with a lower rise (i.e., so they're not trying to fit your natural waist)
2) Go down a size. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but bigger sizes are proportioned differently. Your hips may be hitting the pants in a relatively narrow place rather than the widest place
3) Look for 'trouser' style pants and jeans that fall straight from the hips.

If your 18's are baggy, you probably need to be in a 14 rather than a 16 especially if you're not particularly tall.

Dresses and skirts look and fit better longer while you are losing. Try on different cuts of pants in different sizes to find one that you like. I used to love boot cut, but now they are way too big in the thigh/butt. I usually look for a simmer cut thru the thigh. I can usually get a smaller size in one that is a lower rise than a regular waist style. If I remember correctly, the Junior sizes (odd sizes) are based on a slimmer build than the Misses sizes.

I'm on the cusp of 24 jeans. My 26s just look sad... it's SO annoying. I feel ya!
