It could be just the 'slider' aspect of some high sugar/high fat foods or liquids with the foods.  The intestines have a lot more 'absorption' area than the stomach itself.

I have to agree on this one. When I eat my protein or dense foods first and then have a treat I am fine, but if I try to eat something high fat/sugar on an empty stomach I immediately have a hypoglycemic episode.

Actually I was responding to the poster who has horrible IBS and not the OP, who sounds like she was dealing with a round of reactive hypoglycemia.  But who knows, maybe there is a correlation between the two.

I had my gal bladder out before my VSG (actually before my lap band even), and that is what cured me of my  "IBS". I don't have a gal bladder and I HAVE had issues with reactive hypoglycemia, but it never came with any stomach issues, just shaky, sweaty and then sleepy.

I had my gallbladder removed 3 years ago and still have the horrible IBS symptoms that sound like what everyone is calling dumping - though not as frequent and Symax really helps when the symptoms first start.

Darn! I always tell people with IBS about my experience b/c it's so often "unexplained" and hard to control, that maybe for some it could be the answer.

Do you have issues with your sugar? Have you every had any kind of testing done for that? "Dumping" is a form of reactive hypoglycemia, where the stomach dumps undigested fats and sugars directly into the intestines, it is more common in RNY patients b/c they do not have a pyloric valve, but because of the rapid gastric emptying that can happen with the VSG it can happen with our surgery (although it's not really common, and most people don't have problems with it after a few months out) which is what causes the symptoms that they are describing.

I have issues eating sweets. The first instance was at a Thanksgiving luncheon. I ate a bite of sweet potatoes/cranberry sauce and I became sweaty, hot, and dizzy. It seems to be a bit better now at three months but I do not indulge in sweets regularly.

I have had it happen to me. Right after surgery I would dump on cream soups. It is AWFUL! For me it is an overwhelming wave of nausea, sweats, rapid heartbeat, and my periphoreial (sp?) vision goes dark. Take an anti nasuea med really quick and lay and ride it out. After about 30 min I am doing okay again.

My gallbladder has been out for 10 years now. It is simply a reaction to what I am eating. I am very very careful about it now.

I've only dumped once and it was because of peanut butter. I had avoided it for several months post surgery but decided I'd try a tablespoon of it in my protein shake one evening. The room started to spin, I got shaky and then felt like I HAD to lay down right that minute. I fell asleep on the couch for several hours and still felt kinda off when I woke up. Still haven't been brave enough to try peanut butter again. Sorry you felt icky. Feel better soon.
