A completely positive recovery experience.
So today is my second full day home from the hospital, fourth day after surgery. I am a little surprised by my progress. I seem to be having the exact opposite experience of most people. I am supposed to get in a minimum of 24 ounces of clear fluids and 24 ounces of full liquids. Yesterday I just made it. Today, I have exceeded that goal for both. I can drink with no problems. Sometime I get a little discomfort under my breast bone but I just wait a minute and it goes away.
I am not in any pain, just a bit of discomfort like a slightly bruised feeling. I took a pain pill last night before bed and I will take another before bed tonight just to make sure I sleep well. I did not take any pain pills during the day. I have been passing gas well both ways
.
I think my biggest problem is going to be boredom! My husband said today that I seem to have more energy now than I did before surgery. I am tired in the morning and again in the evening but I take a nap if it gets too much. Before surgery I had ZERO energy most of the time. I am trying to stay off the scale but I know I did gain weight from the fluids in the hospital but I have lost all that and am now 5 pounds below my pre-op weight.
I did sleep most of my hospital stay so maybe that has something to do with it. Just letting my body recover on its own without my interference. I felt bad for my poor husband, who took time off work to stay with me in the hospital and had nothing to do while I slept!
He is such a sweetheart. He didn't even complain, said it was his job to make sure I wasn't alone! (He did go home at night.)
The only negatives, if you can call them that, I had some low blood sugar tests post-op but I didn't feel any symptoms. Apparently, everyone assumed I was diabetic because I was on metformin pre-op (for PCOS) and once they figured it out and added dextrose to my IV, everything was fine. The other thing was that before I was discharged, they wanted me to finish three small cups of water. Well, I think I tried to drink a little too fast because I started having a strange sensation when I tried to swallow my saliva, like it got caught in my throat and I felt warmth rising in my throat but it went away within a few seconds. I figure it was probably acid reflux from ddrinking too fast. I can't think of anything else that could even be remotely considered negative. Honestly.
Anyway, I think that's it. I don't want to seem like I am bragging but I just wanted to let prospective sleevers know that it can be a very positive recovery period.

I'm so happy you're experience has been a smooth one! It IS true that it gets better everyday. My only real pain remains the shoulder pain. I'm lie you, I aimed 13 pounds in fluid from the hospital all in which I peed out the first day home! Now I'm 5 pounds down from the morning I left from the hospital. Keep up the good work girl!

Kanga, I'm glad to hear that your recovery is going so well! I had a really good experience myself. Not much pain...the gas pains were about the worst of it. No troubles at all drinking my fluids. Now that I'm on regular foods I'm not having any troubles eating either. My DH was actually a little disappointed that I didn't need more of his tender loving care. LOL ';)
