Observations of new sleever by old sleever (x post)
You all know my husband Shrinking Nerd was sleeved by Dr. C on November 15. So he is a little shy of four weeks and is generally doing well though Dr. thinks he needs to get more fluid.
Here are some observations from a "senior" sleever:
I haven't had to make dinner for anyone but myself in a month! Its great. I like to have a glass of wed wine when I get home and make my own little dinner later. So I do stuff like cook a small steak that last three days and microwave two brussel sprouts.
I am reminded of the horror of protein drinks. Hubby has found some he likes pretty well but also some awful ones. I thought they were all awful. Even so, once in awhile I still do one if I need a protein boost.
Its amazing how fast the weight goes for some people (i.e. men) early on. Not sure of how much he has lost post op but Dr. said he could be down 90 lbs in 90 days. Hubby is exercising more than I did. I really should do this too.
The new clothing needs have begun. All hubby's stuff is baggy. He ordered some new 2x things from the big and tall catalog. I think he is gonna be out of that catalog soon. I think is will be a new awakening to hubby that he will soon be able to go into most any store and buy stuff off the rack. He hates to shop so it will probably be me doing this.
BP meds are on the way out. What he takes is a diuretic type and with the dehydration issue (not major but needs to be addressed) so Dr. says quit them and monitor. Yay - a health benefit already.
Observing the early stages of hubby's journey reminds me of my own. Helps me stay committed to the lifestyle at a time when it seems cookies are in my face everywhere I go.
BTW, my sleeved brother is now down to 215 from a high of about 350.
Sleeve rocks in so many ways.

I am still trying to wrap my mind around the 90 lbs. in 90 days. Wow, Diane, just wow. It sounds like you are all doing great and your brother is probably nearing goal now. I am glad all is well, keep an eye on the dehydration stuff, it can really sneak up on you. I know you will, it just hard to see it coming sometimes and then it's hospital time. I used to sip a shot glass every 15 min. in the beginning, but he's probably past this stage now. Just keep bringing him liquids and putting it right in front of him. That's what my husband still does for me. :) It's kind of romantic if you think about it.
yep, the 90 lbs in 90 days seems amazing especially since i lost about 40 in that time. But hubby can really peel it off fast - always has - and can gain equally fast. Dr. thinks its time to ditch the bp meds which are a diuretic and i think so too so nurse Diane is making him take bp daily and getting him to drink all this broth which he likes with lime in it. Gotta go stock up as he may be doing two cans a day for awhile plus protein drinks and such. Still some queasiness which dr. thinks is from the low hydration. Fortunately hubby is one to follow doctors orders exactly. wish he would follow mine as well.!!!!!!! tee hee.
So all is good. just got to get this fluid thing handled. Frisco pointed out that for the first time maybe ever my husband eats less than I do. its true. He really seems to drink quite a bit but he is a big guy so he needs more. Diane
