mine is a 32..and my surgeon makes them 'nice & tight'..is what he says..but the length of your stomach also plays a part in how much room you have in what's left of your stomach.  Two different bougie sizes can still fit in the same amount of food..based on length of stomach..

36.  I hear many say 40 is too big.  However, there are some who have this size and lose just fine.  Best of luck to you!  ~Jennifer

40

I believe that while bougie size matters, surgeon technique (how close to the top and bottom of valves they start, and how tight to the bougie they staple) makes at least as much difference as bougie size within the range of 32 to 42.

A tight 32 is tighter than my tight 40 for sure, but my tight 40 is tighter than a lot of 32s on this board right now due to surgeon technique. I can't eat quite 2 oz of dense protein at 7 1/2 months.

And with my 36 I can eat 3-4 ounces of dense protein easily.  So there you have it!  ~Jennifer

I think mine is 36f and at 8 months I eat 2.5 to 3 oz dense protein.   I don't know if I can eat more, haven't tried.

I agree with Mom4Jazz.  My surgeon told me that there's way too much emphasis on bougie size--that the technique of the surgeon is what makes the most difference.  I have a 34 and can barely eat about 2 1/2 oz of dense protein at 3 months out.  Good luck!

Dr. Curry uses a 36 and does not oversew.  My understanding is that a larger bougie of say 40 if oversewn will actually make your size ~ 34 - 36 depending on how tight the surgeon pulls.
