?s for Vets....How much can you eat now?
I'm just over 3 months out and I can only eat a few bites before I feel full. I did blow it out this week and had Steak, Lamb chops and Turkey Pot pie... I know full of fat but it was my Thanksgiving dinner. I've stalled for 2 weeks but know once I get back on track it will come off again. I'm not worried but reality is you have to be AWARE of what your putting in or not putting in. ( vitamins, calcium, water etc..) good luck
At 10 months out, 2.5 oz of dense protein is my limit and at times that is uncomfortable. I can eat about 4oz of cottage cheese. When I eat out, I eyeball, but I measure by volume at home. I'm careful when ordering out to find things of limited portion size to start with, as well. For example, yesterday I went to a Tapas restaurant. I ordered Abondigas (meatballs) in a tomato picante sauce. There were 4 meatballs a little smaller than golf balls.. I ate a little more than 1 meatball. When in doubt, eat conservatively .
When I was a newbie I spent a lot of time worrying about my stomach size....I worried so much I would end up eating because I was anxious. Let me tell you the truth: it doesnt matter. You use the restriction in the beginning to the BEST of your ability. Eventually...even those with "great restriction" end up gaining weight back if they eat the wrong foods and eat too often.
I can eat an incredible amount of food now 2.5 years out....by watching me eat you wouldnt ever know I had surgery - I can eat what appears to be a normal amount of food. I dont measure....but its comparable to what other thin and/or healthy looking people eat. I can eat a plate of food - veggies, piece of meat, and maybe some other side dish....no problem. Could I go back for seconds? I dont know...I actually feel satisfied now so I stop. THATS whats important....learning to become satisfied after eating. I never had that before. That is what this surgery helped me with.
A lot of the people *****sponded said they have tight restriction still but gained back weight - I cant feel my restriction that much anymore....I would really have to pu**** Nothing compared to the old days of course, but I definitely dont eat like someone who had 1/2 their stomach removed. But I choose to put healthy foods in.
USE THE BEGINNING STAGES AFTER SURGERY TO RETRAIN YOURSELF. Retrain your brain and stomach. Retrain how to deal with emotions. Surgery was a reset button that wont last forever. And even if someone had a teeny tiny itsy bitsy stomach....if they dont RETRAIN themselves, they will figure out how to cheat it. I met a woman who has had 3 weight loss surgeries and guess what....she now weighs over 300 pounds again.
Not trying to scare anyone....just speaking from what Ive learned. Focusing on how big your stomach is and doing the pouch test in my mind is spinning your wheels. Fill your time learning how to take care of yourself in ways you never did before. Take a nutrition class. Learn something, do something. Dont worry about things you cant control. Learn to control the things you can.

Kellawanda,
You have had a great success with your weight loss, and your vids were informational and inspiring to me as a pre-op, but I wanted to ask something regarding restriction. I know from reading more than a handful of of Pompa's patients they all seem to have an issue with losing restriction after a few months to a year... She herself admits making a larger than normal sleeve.. and some have had some very wonky shaped ones.. do you feel it is harder to maintain with a larger capacity? I fully understand the mental aspect of it, and don't take it or my restriction as the end-all be all in this game.. Just honestly curious.
