2+ years out....

My basic meals are 2oz. Protein and 1oz. Veggie.

I was very proficient at "eye balling" from early out, mainly because in my job I need "micrometer eyes"

As a guide I have always used the "Deck of Cards" visual. A deck of cards is about 3oz. by volume.

My eyeballing skills have been refined even further since I have been photographing "Bariatric Meals" and it's easier to communicate by weight of proteins.

I think early out it's best to use those small containers to measure your food. The come in various sizes.....2oz. and 3oz. would be good sizes to have....

Hopefully as this thread progresses, It will show some with larger bougie sizes eating larger meals further out.

I am almost 21 months out from surgery and I still have great restriction.  I do not measure, but I am still pretty much on the no appliance diet and relying on protein drinks and bars to get my nutrition in.  When I do have the rare occasion to measure, I am eating 3 oz dense protein with 1-2oz veggies (the restriction that I feel with this tells me that when I am eating, I am staying with in the range I am supposed to be in).  I am like Elina in that I let the scale tell me if I am doing okay.  I am not in maintenance yet, but I am close.  I am trying to blend the losing with the maintenance phases for a smooth transition.

I am over 3 years post-op, and i still have a very real restriction.  I can eat between 4-8 ounces at any one time, depending on how dense the food is.  The heavier the food, the less of it I can eat.

BUT, it is NOT the amount you can eat at one time that will present the problems!

It is "grazing", eating between meals, snacking on this and that, that will do you in if you are not careful.

I could easily eat 60-80 ounces of food daily, by just "grazing"!  An ounce or two here, 30 minutes later an ounce or two of that, and over the course of a day, it REALLY adds up to a LOT of calories.

No, I don't weigh my food any longer.  I know what I can normally eat, and if I feel full before then, I just stop.

It is the "graziing" that I have to put a lid on.

Thanks OldMedic...I guess I didn't realize that you could "graze" all day...that is good to know.  So do you snack between meals?
Also...your weight loss is AMAZING!!! Congrats!

I still feel that I have great restriction. I can eat more at now than I did at 6 months out. That being said. I choose not to test my limits.

I never measure or weigh my food. As others have said it's a lifestyle change and in my lifestyle trying to measure or weigh food is impractical for me.

I'm a firm believer of the Frisco's philosophy ( I attributed it to him as he's always saying it) of eat until you are satisfied not full. If you can accomplish this than it doesn't matter what size bougie you have (BTW I'm a 38).

I've come to accept the fact that I'm going to have leftovers on my plate. This was a big mental hurdle for me to jump over. I don't feel like I have to finish what's on my plate.

I'm only 3 months out so Im not a vet, but I eat 6 ounces per meal. To give you and idea of what I eat for a meal, breakfeast would consist of 1 egg w 1/4 cup cheese w mushrooms onions and peppers, 1 piece turkey bacon and a half of piece of toast with cream cheese. It has been my standard breakfast for a while. All sleeves are not created equal and while mine is not the smallest it does a great job and Im happy with that.

Im almost 2.5 years out and i still have great restriction, i can eat 3- 3.5 ounces of dense protein depending on what it is... but then thats all im eating no room for anything else...

I too can eat a ton of junk i.e cake,  it caused me a regain of over 20lbs.... but using my sleeve i took it all off again.. so as said before, its not always about the size of the sleeve that will get you into trouble.. its still down to what you put in your mouth..
