Congratulations on your decision to do this wonderful thing! I live by myself also and am 59 yo. I have wonderful family that lives about a mile away but other than driving me home, I was just fine by myself. Although I didn't need pain or nausea meds, I didn't drive for a couple of days because I still felt a little foggy and sluggish from the anesthesia. My niece walked my dog for me but I was able to do everything I needed to around the house. Unless you have issues with nausea or something in the hospital, the one day should be fine. I was alone after the surgery, although I had family nearby I could (and did) call when I needed something. I slept in my bed with just pillows to prop up on for 2-3 nights. Just do your shopping beforehand.
