Eating out makes me nervous!!

I'm in the process of moving and unfortunately, my mom packed all my dishes and everything and didn't label the boxes, so the last few days, I've had no dishes to cook. But I hate eating out because I have a really hard time figuring out portion sizes. I am super neurotic at home about weighing and measuring everything, so when I'm out - i just don't know. I still feel like I have no "full signals" at this point, so that's why im crazy about weighing and measuring. Im afraid of over eating if I go out.

The whole visualization of 3 oz being a deck of cards etc, really isn't helping. I feel lost... so I've been living off of soft foods like cottage cheese and yogurt since I don't have to cook them. But, for the next few days I'm going to have to eat out since my fridge is going bye bye. -

Suggestions? I'm thinking to just order food to go and come home and weigh it but my friends will really think im crazy...(oh wait..i am crazy)

You are doing phenomenally well on your weight loss.  Congratulations!

Do you have a friend from whom you could borrow a few dishes until you get moved?  And do you maybe have a cooler that you could fill with ice to store your cottage cheese and yogurt?

Also, I think your idea of getting take out and bringing it home to weigh and measure is a great idea!  Your friends may think you are weird, but shoot, I'd rather be weird and slender than "normal" and fat, ha HA!

Good luck!

I have always eyeballed my food, and am sometimes wrong ;-) but my theory is that not everyone's palms are the same size!

When you can't measure and are afraid to wing it, try simple drive through things like KFC chicken breast filet, Taco Bell refried pintos and cheese, the taco filling minus the tortilla, Wendy's chili, those kinds of safety items.

If you are worried about what your friends think (they don't know about your surgery?) just order soup and take your time.....there's lots of easy things to fool 'em with. Depending on where you go, you can get the "light" plate kind of food with cottage cheese and fruit or whatever. Have you had salad yet?

You'll be FINE. Enjoy the company, ignore the food...everyone else will too.

I have read that 3 oz is also about the size of the palm of your hand, so I use this method if I have to be away from home. I actually eat less than what looks to be the size of my palm to be on the safe side, and also because I am usually satisfied at 2- 2 1/2 oz anyway. Good Luck!

Early out I bought a set of bowls which measure from 1 oz. to 2 cups. They're stackable and the sizes are clearly delineated.

I still use them for measureing out food and snacks.

You might want to go back to protein drinks a couple of times a day until you are all moved back in. Then you'll know for sure what you're eating.

Yep. Carry out is your friend and most restaurants do it.

I do eyeball when I eat out, but I have decent full signals. If I didn't I would probably go carry out or be as nervous as you are. We do have Lyin' Eyes!

LOL i have paper plates and some little bowels for my food, but i cant cook meat on them! That's my only problem is that Im not eating a lot of dense protein cause it requires cooking.

Short of picking up the meat and putting in my  hand, i suck (or at least dont trust myself) to estimate portion sizes.
