If protein powder loses it's potency, after it has been mixed for awhile?

When I started to feed my baby formula, I read that you need to throw it out after an hour because of bacteria growth and that the drink's protein would break down over time. And so, that is why you shouldn't premix a big batch of powdered formula that cannot be used within 24 hours. I would think protein powder is the same.

How long are we talking?

I work in the food industry so I've got a little background knowledge on this. If you mix it and then leave it at higher temps (we're talking more than room temperature), then it can break down over time. If you mix it and then put it in the fridge, it should be good for at least 24-48 hrs. It may not taste so good being mixed that long, but it should still have it's protein content and be safe to consume.

Edit to add: infant formula is a whole different ball game and it's best to mix it and use it ASAP. Or refrigerate it as soon as you mix it if it's for future use.
