I am very sorry to hear this.  Is this reversable if you were to lose more
weight? Or is the damage done already.  Are you allowed to walk?
Check with walking and see if it is ok.  If so,  just walk everywhere until
you get a handle on this.  What made you see a cardologist?  You mentioned
you never had symptoms.

Huuuuugs and worried about you.

I only found out because of my pre-op testing - routine EKG. So I saw the cardiologist from there.

It's congenital/genetic, so unfortunately it's not reversible, but i have never had any symptoms what so ever. I almost question the diagnosis if I didn't have family members with it.

I can walk, and do light exercise. I imagine he wants me to keep my heart rate low (since he put me on a beta blocker). I have to go in and sit down and have a long chat.

It's kind of weird because I had a nuclear stress test and during that, my heart showed no signs of arrhythmia or irregular heart beats, etc, sooo it seems like his advice is just text book advice to EVERYONE with this diagnosis.

Im totally fine except bummed.

If you're determined to exercise, yet not a candidate for an implantable defibrillator, ask your cardiologist his thoughts on wearing one of these as a precaution:

No, I don't work for the company.  I learned about this device firsthand when my dad was prescribed one until his heart was stable enough for an implantable.
As an RN, I researched them thoroughly after he was fitted for one... They do save lives!

This really is sucky news for you :(

The extremely extremely good thing about though, is that you were smart enough to look into it on your own and ask the Dr. for his opinion  BEFORE you had a heart attack.

Long QT and rapid heartbeat are not a good combination, and really can and do lead to sudden cardiac arrest.  Please please follow your Dr's recommendations.

If marathon type exercise is out for you in the future (and I don't really know if the implantable defibrillator would change that or if you are a candidate), perhaps you can switch to something like yoga?   I don't really know what that does for the heart rate, but I know its excellent for you and a great stress reliever.  Or maybe low-intensity exercise (under a certain heart rate) would be ok?  Work with the Dr to figure it out, and definitely get a second opinion for your own peace of mind.
