The way I am getting around the discomfort, (I am 17 days post-op) is to drink your protein shake over 30 mins, and wait 30 mins after to drink anything, Also GasX is one of my new best friends. Like others have said it just takes some time and you have to eat slowly.

Keep your head up things will get better.

Rmoneygirl,

I completely understand where you are coming from.  I had surgery on July 27, and I still can not drink plain water.  I loved water before surgery and now it just turns now I can't drink it.  I now drink diluted apple juice and water.  It is the only thing I found I could handle.

Just go easy on yourself.  Listen to your body.  If you do not feel ready to take on mushies, don't do it.  If you feel you want to stay on fluids for a while longer do that.

I ended back in the hospital 3 days after being released from the surgery due to an infection.  I was dehydrated and it took them 8 pokes to get an IV in me after an ICU nurse came in to do it for the unit nurses.  Not fun at all and hurt like the dickens.

I felt like crap for the first couple of months, but now that I am almost 3months out, I am feeling better.  That is not to say I still don't have days when my tiny tummy isn't sensitivie because I do still have those days.

You will do great.

Sheila

You've gotten some really thoughtful suggestions. Remember, just because your plan says you can move on to the next phase of food doesn't mean you have to. I was very slow to move on. I stayed where I was on my eating plan longer at each stage just because it felt good to my new teeny tiny tummy. Another thing I want you to consider is the amount of food needed to keep us alive. At this early stage you don't need much. We're so used to eating a lot all the time, hungry or not, that most of us have no idea how much we really need. Remember, you won't die if you don't eat much for a while. You'll be OK.

It will get better. All the best.

Thanks to everybody *****plied to this.  I'm also 9 days post-op and having a tough time with the mental aspects of all this and feeling a lot of buyer's remorse.  Emotions I have been stuffing for so long are coming up in the oddest ways.  Last night for example, I had a really bad case of "restless legs" and had a hard time falling asleep.  It kinda feels like I'm going through some emotional withdrawal from the food and this is my body's reaction to my anxiety about what I just did to myself.
Deep breath. Deep breath.

Today, I'm calling my therapist and getting out of the house so I can walk off some of this anxiety.  I knew this was going to be an issue in the beginning, but it's still very difficult to go through it, and I just wanted to express my empathy with the OP and my thanks for all the support given on this thread and this forum.  For every person who posts a concern, I think there are many out there who don't post but still benefit from everyone's contribution, so thanks to all!  It really helped me today.
