Food Scales?
Food scales tend to get broken at my house. I have a very accurate postal scale I use for weighing puppies (we worry about newborns losing fractions of an ounce the first few days) and food. If I'm weighing food, I put a plate on it, tare it out, and then weigh whatever I am going to weigh. With puppies we use a towel, instead, lol.
WW (Weigh****chers) has a great digital scale that weighs down to the smallest amount and can weigh in grams or ounces.
I put the bowl on first, then turn it on and it automatically adjust for the weight of the bowl so I know what I'm putting in is exactly the ounces it says it is rather than trying to subtract the weight of the dish.

Like KrazyDogLady, I use a postal scale. I bought it years ago for weighing packages (I sell on eBay & half.com) and it's accurate to 1/10 of an ounce. I paid only $10 for it; probably costs a bit more now. I just put an empty plate on it then zero it out, then add food. Works great & is small enough to easily store in the cupboard.
Don't know where you're located but i got a tiny one brand Salter from Bed Bath and Beyond for $5.00. Make sure you get a small one. the larger ones have such small numbering for the ozs they can be hard to read. With this one the ozs are king. It also had a cover so you can remove the little box top from the scale, cover it and refrigerate leftovers. Love it. Good Luck.

I love my Oxo Good Grips. It comes in two sizes: one that holds 5 pounds ($29.99) and the larger one that holds 11 pounds ($39.99). I have the 5 pound one which I got at Bed Bath & Beyond for $24.00 by using their 20% off coupon. You can put your plate on it and then zero it out to get a true measurement of your food. You can even zero it out between foods that you are adding so you know exactly how much each item weighs.
I watch America's Test Kitchen on PBS and subscribe to their website. The OXO Good Grips Food Scale was "Highly Recommended".

I got a very cheap one at Walmart. Less than $20 if I remember right. It looks similar to the Biggest Loser one. It has the zero out (tare) function as well. It's quite accurate - I know because I weight out ground meat to freeze and it always matches what the butcher has put on the package.
I've used it almost every day for the past 4 months. Works fine so far. The only thing I don't like is that the display is kind of hidden up under so you have to push whatever you're weighing toward the back to see it. If it messes up I'll go to Bed Bath and Beyond next time.
