Protein vs. Calories
I'm really struggling. I am trying to eat between 800-900 cals a day (although I see many post with people eating a lot less calories here). I am also experiencing some hair loss and trying to increase protein to 90-100 a day. (I eat ONLY protein), very little carbs (only in veggies) No bread, rice, pasta, etc. The problem is in trying to increase the protein, my calories go up to sometimes 1100. WTH?? I feel like this is way too much. Im in ketosis, so I know I am doing the right thing with carbs. Am I doing something wrong? I track EVERYTHING I put in my mouth on myfitnesspal.com. Any suggestions? I am 4 months out today!!
Personally I never worry about calories...
I look at carb, protein and water... period. If you are in ketosis dont worry girl. There is no magic number for everyone when it comes to calories. We are used to counting them in because of all of our failed weightloss attempts. With the little you eat, if you have more calories from meats and veggies than you expect to have... and are still losing or maintaining which ever you are attempting to to do dont worry..
Now thats just my opinion and what worked for me....
Hugs

just what i've been told by the folks at my program: focus on cals 1000-1200 (though have been explicity told not to go below 1200) and 70+ protein. so, you're doing way better than i am!!! you could be temporarily stuck, your body could be in shock -- dunno. i say -- you're doing great and you need to be kind to yourself and talk to your NUT at the doc's office. good luck! (((((hugs))))
I routinely get 90 grams of protein a day under 800 calories (usually well under 700), but I'm not sure you'll like my method: protein shakes and dense protein, with one small treat (also low carb) per day.
Example for today's meal plan:
GNC Lean shake: 170 calories, 25 grams of protein
Starkist Tuna Creations (about 2 oz, no mayo): 80 cal, 14 grams
Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey shake 1.5 scoop: 210 cal, 39 grams
Two slices (2 oz) deli Turkey Breast: 50 cal, 11 grams
PowerPak protein pudding (1/2 can and my treat + the protein): 95 cal, 15 grams
605 calories, 104 grams of protein. Ta da. The only problem is that I often won't finish the two 2 oz solid meals. I'm eating the tuna now and it's looking like I MIGHT get 1.5 oz, which takes my protein down to about 100. If I have the same problem this evening it'll drop into the 90's, still fine for the day.
Actually, my calories are a little higher. I take calcium chews (20 cals, 7 carbs a day) and add some fiber to my Body Fortress Shake. Sometimes I'll substitute a slice of cheese for one of the slices of deli meat just to bump my calories up a little. I might also have a few almonds if I'm below 600 calories for the day.

I'm never hungry. Just don't care that much about food.
Since I can't eat 2 oz of protein at a time, it would be a lot of hard, slogging work to get my protein in. With the shakes it's easy, I like them so why not?
It's all in what you're comfortable with.

I am almost 6 months out and I just don't care for food either. I drink 2 protein shakes a day with 1% milk and 1 and a half scoops of protein mix. If I eat 2oz of dense protein at a time it makes me feel like a rock for two hours.
I hope it gets better because I used to like food, but for now I wish I could just take a pill and be done with it.
