Papaya Pills/Chews?
Has anyone that has been Sleeved heard anything about Papaya Pills or Chews? Someone that had the sleeve done and lost 300+ lbs told me that Papaya is his friend when he feels something might be stuck or whatever... I just wanted to know if you use or take them what are they really for and what do they do?
Thanks

Papaya = papain. That is the proteolytic enzyme in the fruit. Similarly, there are pineapple enzyme pills (bromelain) that you can take.
As a side note, these are the smae thigs in a lot of enzyme facial masks. ;-) I am a cosmetic chemist so I have lots of useless information on things like this. I guess in this case, not so useless- LOL!
It can definitely help with digestion, especially post surgery. I am adding that to my list of things to have on hand. :)

I have never taken them, but I do know that papaya has an enzyme in it that aids digestion. Also, I have never taken anything without asking my doctor/nutritionist first. If something is getting "stuck" or is needed for digestion issues, there might be an underlying reason for it.
Just my $.02 for what it's worth.

Well yesterday I did the "ate too much too fast" thing for the first time. I didn't think I was going to die or anything, but it felt horrible. I was eating chicken.
So, I grabbed my bottle of papaya enzymes and ate about 10 of them. I had also heard that they could help in these situations. The discomfort passed pretty fast. They really can't do any harm and they are cheap. We keep them around for indigestion/heartburn.

I first heard of papaya enzymes from someone in this forum a couple weeks ago, and I bought a bottle. I take four a day, after meals/protein shakes.
As for something getting stuck, a friend of mine (an RN and also a bariatric patient) told me to mix some meat tenderizer w/ warm water & drink it when something is stuck.
