The Pyloric Valve-How it works with the VSG

My understanding is that the pyloric valve also serves a 'grinding' function as the dense stuff passes through it.

Frisco, thanks so much for that explanation. It was one of the best and easiest to understand I've ever heard (are you a teacher?).  I don't know if you'll recall but I have posted before about my stall, that's now on the 9 months mark, meaning I lost my 60 pounds in the first 3 months and nothing since.  In July I increased my exercise by working with a personal trainer twice a week (which I follow with 30 minutes on the elliptical) and aqua aerobics 3 x a week (unless I do a spin class), still no loss (unless you count the 2 pounds I lost after gaining 2 pounds when I started exercising more).  So back to food and your explanation of slider foods versus dense protein.  I have noticed that after the 3rd month I began getting hungry much sooner after a meal, starting the day with a protein shake and by ten I was hungry.  If I'm really good and make a homemade chicken salad and take that to lunch and eat it first, I do get full quicker and stay full longer.  The problem, of course, are the days I don't eat chicken. So, it sounds like more chicken for me going forward and being extra creative to keep from getting sick to death of chicken.  Finally, met with my doctor who told me the good news, bad news thing.  good news is I have never experienced the food intolerances or issues that others with VSG talk about, never vomited, etc.  Bad news is my stomach capacity is larger than most other VSG patients.  Mine is around 6-8 oz rather than the 4 oz most VSGs have making it even harder to lose.  looks like even harder work for me now than ever, more diligent with meals around chicken, hopefully I don't get sick of chicken.  All this to say thank you for the explanation!

Hey 8less,

You can do this !!!!

First you don't have to eat the full 6-8oz. of food.....Try getting used to 4-5oz. meals.

On the last part of my post there are a list of "sleeve buster" veggies......

Try eating say 3oz. of protein and 2oz. of a hard to digest veg. like cucumber sticks w/skin....or Undercooked broccoli stalk. See how it goes..... try it for 7 days and see if the scale moves.

That combination of those foods should be very satisfying and hold in your sleeve pretty long.

Hope this helps.

Great post! I'm newly sleeved and this was super informative!

Also in regards to the sleeve size that blessed mentioned, what would cause your sleeve to be larger/smaller after a prolonged period of time after surgery, is it just luck of the draw based on your body or is there something that I can do to limit that restretching of my stomach over time?
