Coffee as a laxative?

Coffee has seemed to resolve (or at least reduce) my constipation issues - but it leaves me running for the bathroom within a few minutes. It's better than going 5-6 days without going. It has solved some of my stomach problems I've been having, but swaped it for a whole new set (though I dont mind really).

Has anyone else had this experience with coffee? I'm thinking of becoming a regular coffee drinker :)

I have the very same problem which is why I don't drink coffee when I'm in the car or out running around.

That's how I stay regular just make sure after you drink it your within a few feet of a bathroom  lol. I do drink decaf though so it doesn't mess with my iron absorption as much.

I don't know if it is just coffee, but anytime I drink something hot, tea, etc. it works on me like that. Several years ago when I had my hysterectomy, I had all this gas and constipation, etc. (sorry tmi), but at that time my doctor told me to go home and drink hot coffee, tea, etc. and that would solve the problem, it did and pretty much has since.

I only wish that coffee would work for me.  I've just started taking Gummie Fiber to try to 'move things along', and hoping it will do the trick.  I've also used Smooth Move tea, which helped a little, but I think a sandblaster is needed!   LOL

My doc actually recommended not taking fiber supplements because it tends to "bulk" things up and if you are already constipated, it's not a good combo. Even for me drinking 120+oz of water a day, with the fiber supplements and stool softeners and the whole works - wasnt 'moving things along" so just be careful with that.

I have been told warm water with lemon works as well. So I think warm liquids in general help. Coffee workds too quick for me. Tea doesn't affect me at call. But I have something else that is more enjoyable and gives me a few hours before it cleans me out. Almonds and Pistachios. I don't know why, they are perfect and I can eat less than a handful and I am good to go.

Yep, I notice after a few sips of my morning coffee, I go to the bathroom. I'm so glad I started drinking coffee every morning because before that I was lucky if I went every 3-4 days.
