diet/caff free soda

i have been reading alot of mixed reactions to this. First, I was a severe Coca-Cola addict giving it up slowly thru the pre-surgery time, i was able to cut the cord.

Now, on my diet/nut sheets and also with meeting with NUT I have been told its fine to sip on a diet soda...just as long as it is FLAT. so i leave a 2 liter out and open and it flats out pretty quick. I have had no problems with bubbles or gas from it at all. and also its been 4 days since i started and i've not even reached the halfway mark on that 2 liter bottle (alot being thrown out unused in glass)

Its my hubby that keeps harping me about it. saying.. 'you're not supposed to drink that, your being very dumb, you will gain your weight back' and i keep saying...look at my dietary plan.

so i guess my question is...how many of you still sip on some diet soda....in moderation? :) thx

Hubby is wrong. If you can tolerate the coke, drink it. Caffeine may act as a diuretic is some people so stay hydrate. You won't gain any weight back just because of the coke.

Boy, if your nutritionist said yes, then who's to argue, I guess.

For me, I'm so glad to be free from the addiction I had to dt pesi, I mean I was drinking 3 20 ounce bottles a day at least and I know it is not good for you, so for me, I'm just glad to be free of it and saving oodles on my groceries each week too.

If you like it and they say yes, then enjoy.  I would just be worried that the space the pop is taking up, should maybe be water instead, but if you are far enough out and getting in your liquids also, then it shouldn't count against your water intake.

I was told that if I drank a 20 ounce dt pepsi, I needed to drink 40 ounces of water to recover the water I would lose from drinking the diet pop.  I don't know how true that is, but always remembered it.

Come on..... use some common sense !!!

Do what ever you want after you heal....... Have a little discipline !!!

Call your surgeon.....and ask point blank....really is is ok to drink soda one week out?????

That's it.... I'm out..... Peace !!!!

I don't know.. I feel like drinking that empty crap less than a week after surgery is setting yourself up for bad habits later down the line. Your nutritionist said you can, but that doesn't mean you should. It's up to you to make the decisions that are best for your health! If I were you I'd ditch the soda until you are 6 months out (at least), healed and have a firm grasp on new, healthy habits. Giving yourself a "taste" for the diet soda isn't doing yourself any favors. it's just going to make you crave more of the same.

My NUT says no way.  But, I haven't craved it at all....well, I take that back, I took a sip of one the other day and omg it was sooo sweet.  Since then I haven't had any cravings for it.  I'm just concerned that you may not drink all the water you need to especially being this soon out.  You won't gain weight from it, but I was told that it could dehydrate you.  So, my advice is to make sure you have all your water in before drinking the diet soda.  Also,  Good luck on your weight loss, it's a very exciting time :).

It doesnt bother me 5 months out but I do drink it in moderation and just because I think we shouldnt have to suffer and as long as we can control our "food" addiction to where its we eat to live not live to eat then way not have a couple sips.  I would stay away as long as I can though. I started drinking it 8 weeks out but it was sprite due to my stomach having nasua and it always calmed it down.
This is a adjustment period to what your body can and cant handle anymore. Dont listen to people that are negative towards stuff it will make u crazy worry about what they think. If a couple sips of soda is what u want then so be it just dont over do it.
I wouldnt do reg though its so sugary and I stand by the fact that I got big because of Coke drinking and by switching to diet I lost 50 lbs so anyone that tells u diet is just as bad for u come talk to me. hahaha!!
I find it hard to fit in soda cause of the water we are supposed to be drinking also. I would wait 2 months out before trying it cause it could be very painful gas pains. I still have it sometimes.
My modo for this surgery is "DO what u know in ur heart is right. We have to keep our sanity."

Why are you putting something into your body that has absolutely no nutritional value, especially so early out. Your Nut is wrong, wrong to say that it is okay to drink flat soda. Your hubby is right; it is a dumb thing to do. Drink Water, water, herbal decaffeinated teas, soups, etc. Soda is the last thing that you should be drinking.
