Private Messages are not the way to go

Recently, I have had a bunch of private messages, wanting me to work with people 1-1 on basic sleeve stuff.

It is MUCH better to post your questions, fears, comments, etc on the general forum, so you can get feedback from a variety of people.  I am NOT the complete expert on this process.  I know what works for most people, but certainly not all.

And NONE of us is an expert in ever aspect of weight loss.  There are a lot of good people on this forum, and they are generally more than willing to help each other.

It also helps others if you post your questions here.  Lots of people read these notes, but never post anything themselves.  And, it helps YOU to get more than one perspective.

So please, if you have questions about the sleeve, dietary programs, exercise, etc., etc., post them on the forum, so everyone can benefit from the responses.

A former Army Medic (1959-1969), Registered Nurse (1969-2000), College Instructor (1984-1989) and a retired Rehabilitation Counselor.  I am also a dual citizen of the USA and Canada.

I agree!  One of the best things about OH is the chance to exchange advice and hear opinions from so many ponts of view.  We are all working our sleeves and I'd hate to put pressure on any one person to be my mentor.  Also remember that none of us on the board know the medical histories or details of anyone else when we offer advice, so your surgeon or primary care provider will probably  have the best answer for a serious issue.  For every person who posts a question dozens of others may be too shy to ask and will read the answer, so keep posting and sharing.  That being said, Old Medic I can see why people turn to you.  You give some great advice.

I too have been getting a number of PM's asking for specific advice.  I guess I have a different point of view from you on this one, as I understand why they might want to do this.  They know that the vets really don't answer nearly as many posts as we used to, and they want OUR answer, not just an answer.  Yes, it probably would be beneficial to post about it on the main VSG board but for whatever reason they would prefer a one on one conversation.  I too am not an expert in all areas of weight-loss, but they are not asking for a medical opinion, just my informed opinion on the matter.  I am always willing to share what I believe is best and it's up to the person to decide how much weight to give to my opinion.

Well said Elina,

Some of us are afraid to ask a question out there due to it being stupid, same as asked before, or just a silly question.   Some of us like the veterans and feel like they kind of know one another and that is why we find people and kinda like and admire their opinions.. Some of them have had surgery for years and know quite abit about this process.  So I am with you if you don't mind giving your advice to us new groups I am one of the new ones that will take it..

No such thing as a stupid question here. All are welcome.

I've had great success working with a few folks off- line.

You don't have to be so general and PC.
