Hey Alison,

I'm so glad you have found a way to lose weight and get your energy back. You may have read a post from me a week or two ago about this. My surgeon told me to up my calories, but I was hesitant to. Now, since you are doing so much better, I think I will try it! Thanks for your post!

I don't have too much to say except I'm glad you've started to get your energy back! The title of your post keeps making me think of that movie "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" and I just keep picturing you at the gym repeating over and over "How Allison Got Her Groove Back" while lifting weights and walking on the treadmill!

Hi Allison!

I started to eat 1200 calories 4 months out. I still lose weight. My doctor said, I may
get there slower but I will get there. So far so good except this month at almost 8 months
out on the first, I only lost  just under 3 pounds...  2. something.  I still have a week to go.
I am also 16 pounds away from goal so 2 . something pounds could be like 4 or 5.

You know your body best.  Do what you feel is right bu****ch the scale closely and make adjustments when needed.  Your right some might cringe...but i come from a place where I do
eat more than others and i am still successful.  I too didnt get tired when I ate more food. I am a power house at the gym ( although I havent gone in a couple of weeks due to my new job) So  this 2 oz and 4 oz  is not all that set in stone. However, I am sure it gets you there quicker and do respect it very much.

I felt bad because i couldnt eat like those who had
a tight 32 or a nice 34  or trained to eat a certain way.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE how I eat.
I wouldnt change it for the world.  I know I will get there....  Whats the rush to get to
goal in 6 months then eat for maintenance...when I can eat a tad bit more, have energy,
eat right, eat within a reasonable caloric intake and still lose weight and be happy.

Good for you girl you are listening to your body.  Just dont let the increase get bigger.
That would be my only concern.  a Real concern and I am only projecting myself on you.

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugs,
Mary

The extra calories are coming from protein shakes -mostly after my workouts. I'm still eating generally 2oz-3oz dense protein at a time, and not snacking too much. I usually cut back a little on the protein on my rest days, but days like today where I spent 2 hours at the gym, I need a lot of calories (lol ok 1000) to support that kind of workout.

I guess I'd much rather eat more (or drink more in this case) and workout then live on a super strict calorie regime. Im definitely still trying to take advantage of the honeymoon period, and still very mu*****ontrol of my eating, but I just gotta eat more.

What I don't understand is I've always heard too few calories makes your body go into starvation mode and you stop losing weight but if we're suppose to stick to 800-900 calories that doesn't make any sense so I can understand more calories helped you lose. Does anybody know why the docs recommend the lower calories.

I have to say, I'm confused about this too.  Is the starvation thing a myth?  Is it lowering our metabolism?  Maybe I should post a new topic, lol.

Also, to the OP, congrats on finding what works for you!

Yep, it's a myth. As long as your body has fat to tap into for energy, you will continue losing weight. It is one of the biggest weight loss untruths that just won't die. Yes, calorie restriction results in a slightly slower metabolism, but fat burning never comes to a halt.

This isn't the greatest source, but it's very clear and short:

i think one reason they reccommend very low calorie is so yow will see very fast loss right after surgery, and it will keep you psyched--plus they know that many people are going to cheat 4-500 calories worth even though they try not tp. If the allownce is low, and you mess up by a few hundred, you still won't be gaining at least not permanently.
I may be the only one with this theory, but I think it's for mental help with your addiction as much as anything physical.
