This is great!  I always love what you have to say.  Thanks for always being real.  But seriously, people lie?  I'm stunned!  This is the end of the innocence.  I thought this was the one place we could tell the truth about our weight!

Wonderful advice OM! I will copy and keep this post for a long time. And about the comparing thing: RIGHT ON! I am so happy to be losing I'm trying not to worry about how slow it is right now.

I do admit to not reporting the days that the scale goes up a few ounces for whatever reason.

Thanks for the straight, honest to God's truth.    This is the "reminder for the refrigerator" posting of the month!
Well put.  Thank you.

Thank-you Old Medic,
I really appreciate your realistic take on WLS. I'm a slow loser and sometimes its frustrating seeing how much and fast others lose. You diffinately helped me today and I'm going to print this and hang it on my refridgerator.

Very often I tell people here not to compare themselves to others because some do embellish the truth. Also losing weight is not a race or a competition.  Your body is going to lose at the rate it damn well pleases.  I tend to lose slow because I'm hypothryoid and I have severe arthritis in one knee, this limits me to the type of exercise I can do, but it doesn't stop me for working out every other day and doing water aerobics twice a week!

I don't stick to a low carb diet.  After a 6-week stall, my nutritionist told me to eat a piece of toast for breakfast and it broke the stall!  Also, I recently joined Weigh****chers and am finding my weight is coming off at a better rate now because I now have a way of tracking what I eat and how much I eat.  When I was just eating low carb I discovered I was eating too many calories. I still stick to 60-70 grams of protein each day and I eat fairly healthy 97% of the time, but I don't beat myself up if I want some ice cream or chocolate.  I socialize, have drinks and eat pretty much what I want, the only different is I can't eat the amount I used to eat, however, when I do socialize and am off my program, it's over as soon as I get home and I get right back on the wagon again.  I don't beat myself up, don't say, "well I blew it so might as well blow the rest of the weekend."

I'm 6 months post op and have lost a total of 52 lbs.  I have 75 more left to go and it will come off in due time.  I am NOT going to starve myself or race to lose it.  I set small goals and when I reach them I go out and buy myself a new pair of shoes or a new top or pants!  I don't reward myself anymore with food!

And yes, during that 6 week stall, I did lose inches all around!!

This tool we chose is really a blessing, and once you learn how to listen to your cues, stay on target and do what you need to do to stay healthy, everything else falls right into place.

I wish you all continued success and God bless all of you!
