Protein intake and speed of weight loss

I am so happy, I am losing again!!!! I lost 1 1/2lbs a couple weeks ago and 1 lb last week. So, after reading on here I decided I needed to start tracking my protein again. I just starting nursing school, so I had stopped tracking anything for a couple weeks. I wasn't eating much at all, so I thought it would be okay, even though I wasn't getting in much protein. Wrong!

So, I started eating 70 grams of protein again this week and wala, 3lbs a week again. He He. So, I guess for me at least, I must get in my 70 grams of protein a day if I want the scale to move much. Lesson learned for me! He He.

Another gal on here told me that she eats 100 grams a day and for her, the more protein she gets in, the more she loses. So, I am going to move up to 100 grams a day by adding another protein shake or so a day. It's my experiment to see if it works that way for me too. I have always lost about 3 lbs/week and have always eaten around 70 grams of protein a day. So, wish me luck! I am happy with my 3lbs but I am curious if I would lose more at 100 grams a day.

Anyone else try this before? If so, please share your experience/ knowledge.

Thanks ladies and happy losing!!

On my way!!!!!!

Yay!!!  Congrats on the scale moving!!!

I would love to know what everyone else says.  My doctor told me that I should be getting in a minimum of 80 grams of protein a day.  I didn't really question her.  Just said, OK doc, whatever you say.  Plus I've been reading that having more protein might minimize the hairloss (which I'm really freaking out about...I hear it happens around month 3)!!!

Lol, I am so with you on the hair loss. My hair finally looks good for the first time in years and now that. He He. I am two months out and counting down. I am sooo hoping it will miss me. He He. I guess in another month or so, I will know if I am going to get hit by it or not.

Thanks for your input. Good to know I am safe to eat at least 80 grams a day. I didn't know if 100 could be bad for me.

Have a great holiday weekend!

I started my journey at 425 lbs. and needed a huge about of protein early on in order to maintain my nutritional regimen.  So here's what's worked for me:
TRACKING:
LOG EVERYTHING YOU EAT OR DRINK - EVERYTHING, EVERY DAY!  IT IS THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN BE ACCURATE AND HONEST ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE CONSUMING.  I use Myfitnesspal.com to keep track of every bit of nutrition and exercise - I have instant access to how I've done daily, weekly, monthly.  I don't lie to my computer the way I used to lie to myself about what I've consumed.
PROTEIN:  I'm a big Unjury fan.  I followed a strict diet of having a double-scoop Unjury shake in 8 oz. 1% milk EVERY DAY for breakfast for the first 6 mos. post-op.  No kidding, EVERY DAY - I varied the flavors, but that's all.  It provided a mega-boost of protein first thing in the a.m.; my nutritionist and Dr. loved the idea; it also took "food choices" out of the a.m. meal.  Now I have a single-scoop shake 3 or 4 days per week.  If someone cautions you that "your body can't use that much protein at once....,"  tell them you know 2 people (me and my buddy) who both have lost over 150 lbs. on this regimen.
About vitamins - Here's what works for me.
I use Nutra Metrix liquid vitamins.
It's so simple - I make a "vitamin ****tail" every morning: 1 capful of multi-vitamin and 3 capfuls of calcium in 8 oz.. of water - mix for a minute and "presto" it's my entire vitamin regimen for the whole day.  Especially tasty as it's mango-citrus flavored. These are "isotonic" vitamins, meaning that their pre-digested as they're mixed (sounds gross, but it's not).  It means that the absorption rate (normally very low with pills) is 95% w/the ****tail.)  My lab numbers have been perfect and, as someone who is not a pill-taker, the convenience is great.
I do my a.m. walk (5 mi.) and come home to make my tasty vitamin ****tail with a couple of ice cubes added as a cool-down drink.  I also take a single, sub lingual B-12 every other day to complete my regimen. I get that from a different source.  Check web sites for ordering info.
EXERCISE:  I burn at least 500 calories from aerobic exercise EVERY DAY - NO DAYS OFF, EVER.  Yes, it's hard, but it helps me so much.  If I miss a day b/c I'm travelling, I double-down for the next few days.  I don't do anything fancy - I just walk fast and I play a lot of golf.
I'm 65 and VSG has given me an entire new life.
Hope this helps.  Good luck.
