Well hopefully the veterans will answer, but I am still on mushies and have tried some medium spice and not had too much trouble with it. I made some spicy peanut sauce for my tofu, that worked and have used medium spice in my salsa on refried beans, that also went down ok. I also had some Indian Kashmir Spinach tonight with some curry spice. Again no issues. So I don't know that I would go "extreme" yet, but some spice seems to be fine for me.

I will be 4 weeks out on Thursday and my Nut suggests we can begin the transition to solids then; however, I won't see her for another week. So I will be primarily on mushies I thin****il I see her and have a chance to discuss the plan with her.

Every office seems to have a slightly different plan. but the general advice I see on here recommends taking it slow.

Once I hit mushies/purees, I was adding creole/cajun spices to my foods.

However, for those foods you've mentioned, I didn't eat really spicy stuff until I was about 3 months out.

Right now, especially in pregnancy, the spicier the better, and I've had zero issues eating Thai  Medium +2 or Hot and/or loads of jalapenos on Mexican food.

I stuck to just eating the meat from Thai and Mexican places. Skipped the rice and noodles because those foods typically swell and are carb-laden, and nutrient lacking.

I'm not really a vet, only six months out but I can give you my answer and thankfully that's a big yes! Being from the south, we cook all our food spicy and worried about this myself but have not had any issues eating spicy foods.  I actually crave them now, it's funny all my chicken I cook has to be spicy and even my peanuts I eat to snack on have to be the hot ones! I guess since I don't get to eat that much, my body wants something that remembers the taste, lol! I'm sure everyone is different though so just take things slowly and also watch out for all the Thai and Vietnamese foods, they have alot of carbs in those sauces that could inhibit your weight loss! Good luck!

I never had any problem with spices.  I love ethnic foods and all the fabulous spice they offer.  I started eating that as soon as I was cleared to eat regular food.  Never had any problems with it at all.  Good luck on your upcoming surgery.
