I survived the car trip!
Before I had surgery, I used to have major binges when I would take long road trips (ie 5-6 hours in the car) out of pure boredom. Id have fast food, stop for chocolate and energy drinks when I was done. Always.
I just took my first long drive, and it was such a habit and it was hard to avoid those things out of habit but Im proud to say I had none of that - no fast food, no candy, no soda, no energy drinks. It wasn't easy.
Instead, I planned ahead (planning is my key to everything)- packed my little cooler with cheese sticks, hardboiled eggs, beef jerkey and protein shakes. And lots and lots of water.
I drank at least 64 oz during the 5-6 hours i was in the car. Other than peeing at every rest stop, it worked out well. I was very proud of myself since I went from major sweet addict pre-op ( i ate candy almost every day - confession time!) to over 11 weeks now with no candy. This is the biggest change (other than the obvious portion sizes) ive made post-op and it's definitely been easier than I thought it wouldbe.
The best part of it - my stall broke over the weekend while i was gone and I lost a few lbs! (or I just sweated them off in the 100 degree heat) Talk about a reward for making it through that tough one!

Glad to hear you were able to pre plan snacks instead. I often wonder about beef jerky though, isn't it loaded with salt? I use to buy it all the time from a local meat store that made it themselves, I like it, but often wonder about the salt content in it. Maybe I guess it is ok if it is just a snack post op because I couldn't eat as much of it as I use to. Will have to find a way to get to that store when the time comes, guess I will have to make weekend trips.
I only eat 1oz at a time when I do eat it ( and usually I only eat about 2oz/week). I bought it just bc of the protein and convenience but it doesnt feel very good in my stomach so it's not a frequent snack - that's for sure!
I drink 100+ oz of water a day so hopefully that will help with my salt intake too :)

Good Job! Planning is definitely key!
I'm also finding tha****er (or in my case several containers of Crystal Lite) makes it a lot easier to tame the travelling junk food demon. I know what you mean about the rest stops, though. I just finished a ten hour drive and had to stop every hour or so by the side of the road (there weren't any rest stops).. Fortunately, I was driving across the high desert in central Oregon and there was very little traffic, so with proper timing, I didn't find myself entertaining the passing cars.
If only I were a guy -my life would be easier ;)
Instead I have to fight traffic and fight lines of *****y women for dirty restroooms - I'd love to just be able to pull over :)
