Okay so I LOVE clothes.  Well at least I used too before I buried my little body in all this flab.  Now I buy clothes that fit and that hopefully flatter but that I often don't particularly like.  There are not a lot of options for larger clothes where I live. So one of the real excitements for me about having vsg was the thought that I will once again be able to go into normal sized shops and buy pretty things.  This week I noticed that my favourite shirts I wear to work were starting to look baggy on me.  So I thought I'd go and buy some to "shrink" into.  Well I was petrified!  I went into a lovely shop which I haven't been able to fit anything in for the last 10 years and was totally freaked out!  Firstly I gravitated to the black and baggy type tops which is what I would normally wear.  Then when I became aware of that I realised that now at 36 I have no idea what I actually like!!  The last time I fitted stuff in this shop I was earlier 20s and into flaunting the girls.  Not so anymore!  And then when I finally found  a few tops I liked I was too afraid to try them on.  And I kept expecting the manager to come over and tell me to get out - that there was nothing in there that would fit me!  Of course she was perfectly lovely and didn't do anything of the sort but I felt like such a fraud in there!
Sure enough the tops I brought are too small but I expect they will fit in a few weeks :)

So all in all a very weird experience and a bit disappointing too.  Made me feel that perhaps I have grown out of my love affair with clothes and clothes shopping - and how sad to have missed it for the past 10 years!  If anyone has any advice on how to feel safe and happy while shopping please share!

It is definitely an adjustment going from plus to regular size. It's good though because there is so much more variety and the prices are usually lower too! For a while I felt funny NOT visiting the plus sized section. Now I happily walk past it. Don't be afraid! Try on anything that catches your eye, even if it's something that you would have never worn before. I find that I am now loving bright colors and prints - I don't have much basic black in my closet anymore! Styles I used to love I decided I either don't like anymore or they don't look good. I like my shirts shorter, sleeves longer, things that fit closer rather than looser. I love shopping...it's the NOT shopping that I have trouble doing now.

I think the more you lose, the more that love will come back. :)  You are doing a great job.

Yeah.........don't worry, you'll get back into clothes again! For me, that was the fun of losing weight, I got to discover a whole new look. As I began to fit into everything I tried on, I tried lots of different looks! And it turns out that I now have a completely different aesthetic than I thought I would.

Be warned though, it's far less expensive to "experiment" by shopping at thrift stores, especially for the foundation pieces, like pants and jackets. I went through a LOT of clothes!

Don't be scared, this is one of the great perks of the VSG. Go out and try it ALL on! You are bound to find a whole new you! ENJOY!

Edited for spelling.
