OK so Im almost 8 weeks post op and maybe a little soon to be worrying about this but at any rate I am. Im very concerned about having excess skin and was wondering if there are any people out there that didnt have to have any consmetic surgeries and what did you do? My skin is very very sensitive and I tend to get keyloids I was fortunate that I didnt get any from the WLS but I absolutely am not willing to risk having consmetic surgery on my arms so Im looking for some good tips on ways to prevent all the under arm flap without having cosmetic surgery!!!!!

Now don't get upset.....but I would say that worrying about this early is better than later. As soon as you are released for full exercise (I assume that's now or soon), I would get with a personal trainer to set up a workout routine to address your worries.

It is so dependent on a number of factors----age, amount of weight lost, number of times it's been lost in the past, your own skin elasticity, heredity, etc.

Plastics are not in my future without ins. coverage.  I have lots of excess skin with more to go. But I keep telling myself I did this for my health...not my looks...That doesn't take away any of the sagging, though!!

A plastic surgeon came to my last support group meeting and emphatically stated that exercise/weight training does not affect loose skin. Certainly, you will look better with muscle under that loose skin as opposed to lumpy fat. He said that people who lose quickly with WLS have the same amount of loose skin as people who lose it slowly on their own. I agree with Elaine about all the factors that are a part of it. Unfortunately, these are all factors over which we have NO control. I exercise hard-core and still have loose skin. Sorry for the bad news, but I don't want you thinking you did something wrong if your skin doesn't bounce back.
