8.5 weeks out... crab? (hurry... LOL)

We're headed out to dinner and I'm wondering if I should try crab. I'm 8.5 weeks, right at 2 months out.

My doctor's paperwork says "no shellfish or raw veg until 5 months". He told me start salad around 3 months and slowly add stuff.

To say I haven't had a problem with any foods or any liquids or eating is an understatement. I have had no problems, haven't tossed my cookies even once.

There's an appetizer on this menu for mushrooms stuffed with crab - or even crab cakes. I'm DYING for crab. It's soft though and generally not chewy. I eat chicken breast, turkey, fish, all with no problem.

I guess I could get the seared ahi... just was wanting crab was wondering what you guys though.. I think he has to mean tough stuff like shrimp and scallops...

Frankly, I'd do it! Shrimp is my friend, and so easy on my stomach- it was one of my early foods.. Crab would be the same in my mind.. Be cautious, though I know we can't eat much so it's prob not a concern.. there's sometimes much more breading in there than meat!

Have fun, and those apps sound fantastic!

I was cleared for salad, shellfish/seafood, scallops, chicken, turkey, etc all at 4wks post-op. (The time is less important than the fact I was cleared for them all together). I've been eating shrimp and fish since then, and I can eat more seafood than I can denser protein (like chicken or turkey).

It sounds great... we're going out sunday, and I've been craving crab!

Thanks, I think I'll be fine. I know about the breading thing. I could just get legs (hubby is allergic so no sharing!), but I can eat so little of it, not sure it's worth the trouble. LOL! I'll see what they have though. Yum!

I thought it was fine too.. my doc is super conservative and I do try to listen to him so no shrimp yet, but I cannot imagine crab being a problem.

This is where we're going - YUM - http://www.fredasseafoodgrille.com/menu.html

OMG... I'm DROOLING over the crab-stuffed avocado... that sucker would be MINE! I would eat every morsel (1 1/2oz at a time, LOL).

I'm amazed at the diversity of approaches these bariatric doctors use.  I'm 2..5 weeks out and my doctors allows crab and shrip as part of the semi-soft diet I'm allowed post 2 weeks.  The NUT booklet has a crab salad for lunch on one of the days and shrimp for dinner on two days.

Once I was cleared for soft foods scallops, shrimp, and crab were my best friends.  That was about 3 weeks out.  Every doctor is so different, but I think it should be fine.   Have a nice time and enjoy..
