I'm in Louisiana with Tricare Standard. I've been told by one physician that Tricare does not cover the surgery. I'm just starting to get information about this. Anyone has any idea of what I need to do at this point. Where do I start?

Thank you for any information.

My insurance specifically excluded any WLS.  I ended up paying out of pocket:(  I thiink it was worth it but was disappointed to shell out the money I had saved for a down payment on a house.

The one place that gave me dollar amounts in my area, Out of Pocket $13,950. That's crazy. I'm  sure worth it, but so much money.

Hi Jessa,
Just think how much healthier you  will be when you do get your house. Don't be sad, you have already made one big step to better your life, your house will come. Be praying for you. I wished the ins would of paid, that is the pits.
God Bless

Thanks Evie:)  I am one week out and already down 9 pounds(16 including pre-op diet) so I am trying to keep a positive spin on it.

Call Tricare itself...best place to get the yes/no answer you want.

If you use a mtf military treatment facility then you should have little to no out of pocket costs

Tricare itself does NOT cover the sleeve at all. But... If you can get to a military hospital, they cover them at no cost to you. I had my sleeve in a military hospital, and just had my TT in the same hospital 3 days go.. Still zero out of pocket. You just have o ask your PCP to refer you to the closest facility. Don't give up!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

Hi Shariel,
I don't know anything about your ins, but wanted to tell you, fight as hard as you can to find out everything you can to get approved. One person will tell you one thing another something else. Just hang in there.
God Bless
